Despite the nice twisty story, most of the characters are unlikable and annoying. The lead, Tye Sheridan, was often blank and unexpressive. Caleb Landry Jones was entirely too convincing as a disgusting lowlife scumbag. Imogen Poots gave a good performance of weakness and sadness. By every measure, this is not a feel-good movie. I really disliked how the director got the camera so close to the people's noses. He made people look like Pinocchio. Overall, it was not very enjoyable.

rewatched this yesterday and forgot how well shot it is, those close-ups and low angles are reminiscent of Terence Malick storywise, it definitely led me wanting more, some intriguing stuff doesn't really lead anywhere but a pretty enticing sophomore effort from Edwards

Interesting choice to have Age Out really only describe what led us to this film (left to fend for himself as an adult), skipped over the killing until a flashback, & mostly deal with the consequences mixed in with long beautiful wide shots (but ugly close-ups). Sheridan plays a confusing rough kids who isn't really too bad. I thought Swim would be imaginary. Poots is entrancing. American Honey did it better. Fav scene: Sheridan disarming Jamie at the party by asking him his name.
