French Exit

This quirky comedy won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I'm tickled by the way it casts a jaundiced eye on the petty dramas of the 1%. Michelle Pfeiffer is superb.

Some was entertaining, some was meh.

Very quirky, sometimes amusing, though a little weak on plot substance perhaps, this is an ok watch. The ultimate premise is a bit daft, though I imagine some can feel sorry for the mother played by Michelle Pfeiffer, to an extent. Not a particularly memorable film, this is ok. The true meaning of the film title becomes more clear as the plot continues - it may be a little sobering for some but I'll say no more.

Lucas hedges is in movies that are either great or they’re dog shit. This is a great one.

The book was fluff, but a brisk enough read. The film is a bore, quirky without being interesting. Pfeiffer and Hedges put up a fight but cannot make the lumpen mess appealing. I'm staggered that Valerie Mahaffey got some low-key awards traction - she is pretty much unbearable.

I can't lie, it was enjoyable to watch French Exit. Because, #1: Michelle Pfeiffer is amazing. #2: There were interesting, funny moments. Soundtrack is also extremely nice to listen to. But I just couldn't love it. Unfortunately, the story of the movie wasn't good enough.
