The 6th film in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series was the first to publicly claim to be, "The Final Nightmare". However the following films proved, in horror franchise tradition, that to be false. That aside, this edition plays like a remixed version of "Dream Warriors" with the troubled teens, "Dream Master" with the dream mythology, and "Dream Child" with a paternal Freddy. All three thrown in a blender to make an Elm Street smoothie that goes down surprisingly well, relatively speaking.

Turn it off after 30 minutes and you'll have watched a hilarious Elm St parody. ...There's no joke about the rest of the movie here. Just turn it off. "But I'll miss Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp..." You'll miss nothing. Turn it off.

When I put in my DVD, I forgot that you could watch this in 2D or 3D. Having no ready access to 3D glasses, I had to opt for the 2D experience. At the end of the film, Maggie pretty much turns to the audience to tell them to put on their 3D glasses, and the rest of the film is people pointing things at the camera. Spooky! What made Freddy scary in the original film? Oh right, it's giving deaf kids the power of ultrasonic hearing and then being really loud.

Outside of one effective bit involving a super-sensitive hearing aid, a terminally dull and bland series entry that can’t decide whether to play Freddy for gross-out scares (that aren't scary) or laughs (the weird jokey moments, especially cameos from The Arnolds and Depp, lack any sort of resonance or meaning). Englund’s mere presence is still welcome, with a likable enough cast of kids, but the film as a whole is flat and disconsolate, perhaps in pre-mourning for its leading man?

Okay, I find a lot of weird entertainment in the later sequels because I think there is a little bit of creativity there. Freddy’s Dead, is so bizarre and so far removed from it’s roots to ever feel like a respectful entry in this franchise. Aside from the production looking cheap, the shoe-horned 3D makes the final act unbearable and a horrible closure to the iconic character. Freddy’s menacing presence is completely gone in this, as much of this movie feels like a gag real. Holy fuck.

If the idea was to turn Freddy into a cartoonish character, why didn't they use Peter Jackson's script then? Way better than this origin story - he had family, killed wife, lost daughter to orphanage, became serial killer of children, before dying was "invited" by dream demons to become their servant. Now they try to attract Freddy to reality to kill him. We finally see him with a clean face. Tons of lame effects, including the videogame sequence - he kills a kid by playing him as a character.

(Viewed on 31/12/12): The N.O.E.S franchise was always a mixed bag, but Freddy's Dead is the only film in the series that displays close to zero visual ingenuity. The acting is worse than usual, and the death sequences (the series' call card) are quite poorly done. The 3D effects are badly rendered and the final confrontation is anticlimactic. The montage credit sequence assembled from the highlights of previous installments merely reinforces the paucity of creative ideas in this cheap cash grab.

(2016 Freddython #6:) I found myself weirdly somewhat amicable to this one after struggling to get through The Dream Child. Perhaps it's because this one completely gives up any remote pretense of being a horror movie and just becomes a pure comedy. Perhaps the Nintendo/Power Glove gag or Freddy killing the deaf kid with the chalkboard. I mean, don't misunderstand: This film is a piece of shit. But it's a piece of shit I found watchable and worth some laughs.

lisa zane's heritage is uncanny, she has about the same amount of facial expressions as her brother. shon greenblatt looks like a failed attempt at cloning michael biehn. freddy has finally become a parody of himself. i never minded his occasional quips, but this time he was just clowning around way too hard. i love how this started though! right into the middle of just another day at springwood, some teenage dude trying to make it through a premium survival fantasy. the rest is garbage.

Most of the budget for this must have went to the writers' coke habits, because this throws random (and mostly batshit insane) ideas at the screen for 90 minutes with little regard to making any kind of sense. You want to watch Freddy videogaming a kid to death after turning his infamous glove into a Nintendo PowerGlove? Then this movie is for you.

In this one, suburban normality doesn't alternate with dream surrealism and become increasingly infected by such nightmares. From the start 'reality' is already over-the-top batshit crazy, at least in Springwood - the distinction seems as much geographical as sleep-related, Freddy dwarfed by general craziness. A different logic is at work, and a somewhat different style. Looks cheap, badly acted. Certainly odd, but I can't imagine many would agree that 'they saved the best for last'.

Not really the last installment in the Nightmare on Elm Street series (like maybe you thought it *was*!), this is a marginal improvement on parts 4 and 5. Inconsistent with others in its series but certainly watchable, though by now Tom Arnold and Roseanne Barr are getting to be scarier than Freddy.

The much-maligned "Final Nightmare" is actually a breath of fresh air in a franchise that had just shot itself in the foot twice with the shitty parts 4 and 5. It plays around with the established formula, and that's certainly for the better. At last the pacing is good, the humour is on point and the acting's fine, especially Yaphet Kotto (plus cameos from Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper!). This film's script and overall vibe allowed the series to go back to being something more than just the same.

Fans of slasher movies seem to prefer their killers to be as mysterious as possible, but I'm not a fan of slasher movies. Despite the bad acting; the Part 3 copying; the fact that it remains more unclear than ever why we should think Freddy will actually die this time (pulling him into reality didn't work the 1st time), I liked the increased backstory since it's different & the small twist. The dreams are also extra fun & even funny this time w/ Freddy acting like Bugs Bunny more than ever.

Viewed October 31, 2021. The series is just pure comedy at this point. It opens with a bleak Nietzche quote, followed by an equally bleak title card that says, “‘Welcome to Prime Time, bitch,’ - Freddy Kreuger.” The highlight is an absurd sequence where Freddy traps one of the teens in a sidescrolling videogame.

Freddy's been comical in the prior three films, but nothing to the levels he's at in this film. It's kinda hard to even call this a horror film. I did get a few laughs at some of Freddy's antics, but overall it came off as cheesy, and not in an enjoyable way. The story's rather boring (and dumb even for a slasher film) and the ending is pretty crummy.

Worst of the original Elm Street films. At this point in the series, they've hardly bothered with the script and it's basically just a bunch of scenes thrown together. Budget is clearly small and there's no imagination to make up for it. The cast is even worse than in part 5 with Yaphet Kotto being perhaps the only bright spot. The tone is also way off - somewhere between comedy and horror with some painfully awful scenes (like the Nintendo ones).

This is like a distinctly 90's version of the not-very-good Nightmares 4 and 5. Roseanne makes an appearance which is just fun. And then there's like a 15 minutes battle between Freddy and a stoner kid that is bizarrely mediated through the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Absolutely dreadful. Sure, Freddy has some funny moments, but there isn't a trace of the scary villain we know from the original movie. The story is all over the place and is actually kind of confusing to be honest. Not because it is a complex story, but because it's just disjointed. There are no likable characters outside of Freddy and the ending just doesn't care that it's bad. The only positive thing was the short look at Freddy's past, when he was alive. "They saved the best for last." Right

Now the franchise officially goes bad. Movies 4 and 5 weren't great, but at the very least, they had a degree of style and likability to a part of their cast. Freddy's Dead has none of that. The storyline is convoluted and makes no sense, the acting is bad, the characters are bad, the silliness is so extreme, and the movie is very predictable. Of all the Nightmare on Elm Street films, this is the worst by far.

Well, my prediction was wrong, I did not think this one sucked as much as the pattern seemed to indicate it would. It might not be quite as spectacular or gory as some of the earlier movies, but I liked what they've done with the plot. None of those boring sequences where the teenagers SOMEhow fail to convince anyone that Freddy has returned for a SIXTH time. Because people always seem to think that's the craziest idea in the world, and couldn't possibly be happening AGAIN.

A worthy self-parody that's albeit really crazy while featuring a dark caricature of Freddy. There is an adequate link with the rest of the series, but the history doesn't heavily deviate when we come into contact with seeing what happened when the concept earlier in the series of Freddy is revealed. There is neat interaction with the characters, especially the interesting relationship with Freddy and his daughter - pre and post burn.

Some conceptually interesting ideas are completely voided because of inept execution. Half-assed, ham-fisted explanations of how Freddy's physics work could have been good but it's just so lazy. Even the setting, a near dystopian future, is just kind plopped into the story for the hell of it

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare is the promised final installment in the Nightmare on Elm Street series, and with it and the previous chapter both not really being worth watching, it might be smart for it to be done. Freddy is no longer scary, the films have gotten increasingly thinner on plot and lighter in tone, and while the special effects gets showcased and the deaths are generally creative, that's all the franchise has going for it at this point.

It has some of the most terrible direction, shots, and acting of any of the movies in the Nightmare series. It completely takes away the dark boiler room atmosphere that made the series somewhat good as well. I can see the director sitting in a room with executives. This movie should only be watched for Freddy's ridiculous antics as he tortures the kids, and the equally ridiculous death scenes. It's the equivalent the horror equivalent of a porn parody.
