Very impressive horror/suspense film. Bill Paxton is absolutely amazing and Matthew McConaughey makes up for all the bad generic romances he's done with this film. Some great camera tricks and presentation really enhance what could've been a good movie into a great one. As well the twist at the end, I mean literally right at the very end of the movie, is one of the most unexpected I've ever encountered. Kudos to Brent Hanley for such a great story.

It's just not that good. Paxton did good at directing but the writing is what makes this really suck. The whole interview/flashback thing just reminded me of The Usual Suspects but just done in a much more stupid way. Saw the ending 5 minutes in, it was very by the book. You also gotta love people giving respect to McConaughey in this one. He just shows no emotion and doesn't do anything stupid and it gets passed off as a good performance. The standards for that guy are so low.

Those kids were too smart for their own good. When it comes to films like 'Frailty' or 'Frequency' - which I preferred though - I have a hard time buying into the whole improbability, because of its present day setting and aesthetic (unless executed perfectly like in 'Donnie Darko', 'The Man from Earth',...). If one can get passed that, so much the better. Overrated IMO and as for that ending, meh.

The writing, in particular, is what drags this otherwise interesting movie down. It has some very serious subject matter outlining theological issues, but it deals with them in a very immature made-for-TV style and it makes me, at least, off-put by the entire project all together. I don't really think I can recommend this movie, even though there's not much that's really wrong with it.

I accidentally spoiled the twist ending for myself by checking IMDb to see if Young Fenton also played Gary Giggles in the Spy Kids movies (he did), so don't check the cast list if you haven't seen this already. It's a great script, well-directed by Paxton in his feature debut, and solid performances all around, even from the children.

This film assumes the worst about God's character, and in doing so comments on the upper limits of faith -- eventually asking if the lack de facto makes one a sinner, or worse: inherently evil. And it explores this with some beautifully horrific sequences, superlative child acting, and a complex performance by Paxton. Not for everyone, but I think it's a gem of a film.

Decent creepy horror flick up until the twist reveal then things just don't really work after that. commendable effort by both paxton and McConaughey, the child actors were great particularly the one playing the young Fenton. Worth checking out.

This one's a personal favorite of mine. Bill Paxton impressed me alot with his first direcotiral effort, not to mention his wonderful and sympathetic performance as the father. It's a really creative idea for a horror film and delivers a shocking and fascinating twist at the end.

So the twist is the dude with the blonde hair telling the story about his brown haired, crazy, evil, serial killer brother's childhood and how when they were little the blonde kid did all this messed up stuff while the brown haired kid sat in silent protest is that the BLONDE GUY is actually the crazy evil serial killer. At some point Paxton figured out that acting is the best special effect. As such, this movie is a lot scarier and more disturbing than most movies with more overt FX work. The "surprise ending" is one you can see coming a mile away, but this movie is well done enough to be worth the time

A great thriller about the true meaning of faith, and the lengths a person will go to when he believes he is truly acting as the deity's "right hand". The compelling question throughout is whether he is crazy, or really acting as God's agent. Outstanding!

Bill Paxtons first movie as director. He also plays one of the leads. Paxton has done very good work to keep cruelty in shadows and lets us to decide what actually happened. The latter part of movie flatted the tensity and could be done differently.

Despite Paxton not bringing anything marvelous to a pretty recognizable serial killer story -- it is 90s flick all over --, this is a fun ride as both haunting childhood story -- dad taught kids they were demon slayers, with lists filled with names of random people (or demons) to be destroyed, not killed -- and twist-ending pulpy thriller. McCo is a true highlight. Too bad the finale accepts the visions were all true instead of leaving us with wicked ambiguities -- craziness or illumination?

Frailty brings powerful acting to a good suspense movie. The religious fanaticism in this movie make it very interesting. Bill Paxton, who plays a father to two young boys, is visited by God who tells him to gather three weapons and slay demons with his children. The older child doesn't ever believe it but the younger on completely buys in. I liked how the story was told as flashback from the point of view of McConaughey's character's point-of-view. There is a good twist that isn't watered down.

A good film with some big faults. I really think intertwining the past and present storylines gave away too much about the past. Add in a sheriff of Forrest Gump level intelligence, a decision that Fenton should've made earlier, and a dumb twist ending that creates plot holes/things that shouldn't have happened to begin with. On the plus side, the acting is great, the plot is unique, and it's entertaining. A good, yet very frustrating movie.

Everytime I watch this movie I rate it a little higher. And I keep wanting to watch it again. Really thinking about it, it's probably one of the darkest horror movies I've ever seen. There's little gore, no real jump scares and, by the time the story gets to twists, it's given you a good deal of warning, but it paints a deeply sad, bleak view. Best if you really like to [over] analyze your horror.

Interesting effort with the majority of the impact of the film coming from the double twist ending. The first twist isn't hard to spot and I saw it coming very early on. The second is clever in that I actually saw evidence of it throughout yet dismissed it each time, and I think that's effectively the point being made, so well done in that respect 'Frailty'. Like many I watched this due to Bill Paxton's recent passing. I preferred his direction to his performance, but he's effective with both.

There is nothing frail about Bill Paxton's direction in this thriller. The one thing that might have been lacking was a faster pace that the movie could move at. Still, once you get to the end, you find that everything starts fitting into place like a puzzle that's almost finished and then you find that missing piece under the table. Once it clicks you smile as the film has a pretty cool ending. Paxton is always amazing in what he does...

The thing I'm learning from watching more scary movies is that horror is a hard genre to do well. Frailty doesn't nail the character-audience relationship and the film suffers for it. The "Leave it to Beaver" style interactions between Adam and his father should be creepy but they come off as amusing instead. The older brother is the only emotionally interesting character, his struggles with family and loyalty saved this from being a total bore.

The measured pace starts 2 feel a bit like a short story padded out 2 feature-length about 1/2 way through, but ther's a grimly disturbing story here, w/ the overtly religious theme carrying some powerful subtext about the real-world implications of faith. Unfortunately the somewhat unnecessary & overly complicated twist completely undermines what came before & the entirety of that subtext. Still, the actors, perfectly timed surprises & creepy tone throughout keeps it all compulsively watchable.

A very solid premise, some well constructed shots, and a couple of effectively disturbing scenes. I also must applaud the acting by the boys; probably among the best child acting I've witnessed. But the direction just isn't as solid as it needs to be, especially in the last 30 minutes when the tautness of the story becomes loose and the movie bombards us with a multitude of convoluted twists. There are also some odd direction decisions throughout (disembodied floating head, cgi angel, etc.).
