Forsaken

Ol' Donald Sutherland is a natural for old school westerns. If westerns get their big renaissance he'd be in all of 'em. As far as Forsaken (2015) and his reunion with son Kiefer Sutherland, it's a little lifeless to really capture the heart of the dangerous west. Perfectly watchable, and even has Demi Moore, but I had hoped for a little more gunpowder.

I could get used to Kiefer Sutherland doing westerns

I was really impressed with this one. Real life father and son star as father and son in this dramatic Western. While fast-paced and entertaining, it also packs a powerful emotional punch. Well done.

Monumentally boring with the most generic plotting imaginable worsen by that hush, "dramatic" tone that Hollywood voice directors apply that I'm surprised isn't parodied more. As a story about post-war trauma, the film doesn't explore that as much as it does parade itself on generic moral justice typical of the genre but without the flair and personality that makes any of it enjoyable to watch. It's a very by the numbers film that sees more purpose in filling out check boxes than anything.

A satisfying performance from Keifer Sutherland. Incredibly gorgeous & picturesque natural settings. Demi Moore was also satisfying. Michael Wincott was a very charismatic hired gun. Donald Sutherland was good as the intractable preacher. Good plot & dialog but a long build up to the ending gun battle. Brian Cox was easy to hate as the greedy land grabber. I would have liked a little more action & a little less humiliation. Great music, sound, special effects & CGI was quite convincing.
