I'm not a major fan of those opera movies of the 1930s, but I'm finding a lot of them. This one with the great Beniamino Gigli as the special attraction. His only English speaking film. Simple romance plot where song becomes the power of love. No doubt a thing for fans of Gigli singing, but it's got to be said that he was a very limited presence on screen. He should thank his co-star Joan Gardner for managing to make this love story somewhat believable. A fine subtle performance from her.
