Drama
Made in 1940, this stirringly patriotic film cleverly combined new scenes with genuine newsreel footage. A newsreel journalist is on hand when the Giant German battleship Graf Spee flees into Montevideo Harbour after a punishing encounter with the British warships Exeter and Ajax. As events unfold in a very unexpected way, he is there with his camera to capture the dramatic end to the encounter.

For Freedom (1940) is a British war hybrid. The plot evolves around newsreel journalists and their coverage of the coming war. The clever thing is that they use a ton of real newsreel footage to chronologically explain the political environment as World War II is about to start. It's actually more a documentary then a patriotic suspense film. The story gets lost in all the UK propaganda, which was it's intention in the first place.
