Food of Love

I watched another film by Ventura Pons called Caresses/Carícies that was fairly decent, and as such I expected a decent film here. That's not what I got. The dialogue is the worst part, a lot of it is cringe inducing and doesn't make sense. Kevin Bishop is awful here, but his character is also very uninteresting and rude, so there is that too. Then there is the score, which sounds nice, but often doesn't fit. Overall occasionally entertaining, and laughable at the bad dialogue. Skip this one.

The dialogue sounds like it was written by someone who doesn't understand how English conversation flows (Pons, I'm looking at you)--a long series of non-sequiturs. The lines involving music are particularly cringe-inducing, and the musical performances mannered and limp--bad things for a movie set in the classical music world. The cast flounders about for want of strong direction--even the marvelous Juliet Stevenson is visibly trying too hard. Pity--Pons has made some decent Catalan flicks.
