Fog Over Frisco

Névoa do mistério estreava há 90 anos Vim pela Bette Davis pre code, fiquei pelo Dieterle que sequer gostava desse filme. Porém, é o único filme de que Bette gostava que fez nesse período e meu sentimento alinha-se ao dela, a narrativa dele é muito interessante, tem uma velocidade hawksiana e antecipa em décadas o "truque Marion Crane". I think I understand why Davis remembered this movie with fondly--Dieterle was a director she respected and this is the best of the movies she made with him, and her role was the first one that we can recognize the "real" Bette Davis (with the possible exception of Cabin in the Cotton) and she clearly had some fun doing it. Warner Bros..ever the opportunists, tapped into the buzz she was creating with Of Human Bondage and gave her top billing, though her short role didn't warrant it.

It has its good moments but the bad part is most of them are towards the beginning.

Bette Davis was magnetizing the time she was on screen, before they did the same thing Hitchcock did in "Psycho (1960)" (minus the shower scene) and getting rid of the star. Margaret Lindsay soon took over the lead part. She's beautiful, but she's no Bette. Either way this was a fairly thrilling crime drama at times blending a little comedy in there with the press people. No ultimate climax to the story, but never in any way boring.
