It's nicely planned and shot, but the execution seems to treat the character more as a puppet guided by voice-over than an actual real character with social relevance.

Boring, and many of the moments are obviously orchestrated.

A little short film about a padre that meets his constituents traveling in a small airplane. Very simple mildly fun documentary done by some guy named Stanley Kubrick, doing his first film. And judging by this, you wouldn't think he'd have what it takes to make it into the big times.

2022'de #IzlediğimFilmler ; 293. Flying Padre (1951) Ekim bitti, Kasım #StanleyKubrick maratonu başladı. Enteresan bir belgesel, Kubrick'in hislerini yine de alabiliyorsunuz.

A staged story that's not very interesting told by narration.

An odd step down from Stanley Kubrick's other short, The Day of the Fight. Flying Padre is exemplary in absolutely no way whatsoever, and while it possesses that charming old-timey naivete there's nothing about it that points to the talent of the director. For Kubrick fanboys only.

the narrator is unintentionally hilarious. in fact, it wouldn't have been a surprise to find out that the flying padre didn't actually exist, because the whole thing is so goddamn cheery that i'd almost think this is an exercise in sarcasm. i was entertained, though i don't really think that was the proper intention. i suppose the flying padre is kind of a nice thing to produce propaganda for. if you really must watch a documentary about people in planes helping others, watch herzog's one.

Occasionally funny. Also, a post-hoc analysis, obvs., but it's interesting what's recognizable as Kubrick here [framing, etc.].

This is only a few steps above a Disney or Frank Capra pathos-laden affair. Skip this one.

Not quite as interesting as Kubrick's other short from the same year, The Day of the Fight, and that one was pretty barren. Again, this is only going to be intriguing to Kubrick completists.

Herzog did a better job with the same subject. By the standard of ephemeral films, this one's pretty decent - Kubrick's occasionally great eye shines through, and it's pleasingly short.

I found this to be a rather sweet shortie on an unsung tale.

Yeah, I can see why Kubrick called it 'silly.' It is. I mean, it's obvious it doesn't take itself so serious... from the cheesy narrator, to some of the things said, it's pretty silly, which is funny considering what it's about. But it's also pretty flat, as someone said in the Criticker reviews. And thus, boring. I said thus, that's right.
