Power Point-esque transitions, raunchy humor (there are female nipples! oh my!), some interesting camara and editing stuff make this pre-code film ok, nothing crazy but not as shitty as I was expecting

This was a very bizarre film, starting as more or less a standard screwball story typical of the genre and era, but spiraled to an absolutely mental finale. The final dance sequence was a shocker and I don't know how it got through the censors. Rogers had a scene with very provocative clothing too. Although marketed as an Astaire/Rogers flick, the duo did not have center stage, and that probably worked for the benefit of the film.

There are a few moments of gold in this otherwise mediocre film. The dance numbers seem to be more of a distraction than part of the plot and the finale for flying ladies was underwhelming to say the least. The love triangle was actually fun and Fred and Rogers were great well.

Decent Fred and Ginger movie, but they're not really the main characters and it holds the movie back. The central romance is kind of a dud and while the musical numbers and showmanship are fine, the narrative motivation for it is idiotic and unnecessary.

Not much of a story but worth a watch for the set piece dances and the quite dated looking but interesting visual effects.

One famous Ginger number and one big set-piece "Carioca" epic dance - but not much else as story was weak.

Rewatch. Lively repartee between Astaire and Rogers makes the movie a treat-- too bad the main plot line is such a drag. Hero Roger is such an asshole, it's amazing the rest of the film works so well despite him.

A joyous film! Filled with entertainment and historically important since it's the first time Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers squared off on the dance floor! The main focus is on the gorgeous Dolores del Rio and her flirts with Gene Raymond and del Rio's looks carried this movie almost as well as Astaire's light feet. For the grand finalè they did a cool dance number with girls strapped on airplane wings trying to match Warner Bros' on originality after their successful musicals of '33.

Even for its type, the story is silly and lazily slapped together. There are a few highlights: "The Carioca" and the finale, mainly. Other than that, I spent my time marveling at the decor.

The only people worth watching here are Astaire and Rogers, but unlike their later work, this doesn't either have appealing music or dancing. The story itself is boring, even at top form, Astaire couldn't have rescued this.

Astaire and Rogers keep this from being awful, but their brief scenes aren't enough reason to watch it.

Stellar dancing - as usual - from Rogers and Astaire, but unfortunately they're not the main characters and fail to salvage the romance equivalent of a trainwreck.
