I appreciate they don't make the animals talk but fundamentally this is a film that still takes liberties with how animals act because so much of this is unbelievably contrived. Otherwise I don't think it's landing on any interesting conceit, much of it is dedicated to making the cat do funny, cute things but I could get the same endearment out of watching cat videos. The movie doesn't lean into as much with the spiritual or camaraderie between animals in any way I'd call satisfying.

I enjoyed it on a scene-by-scene basis, but I don't think it really touches on anything profound, and it also can't seem to quite decide what it wants its animals to be. They're strictly animals at first, with the cat seemingly acting out of survival instincts, and then the next scene it wants to save dogs and knows how to steer a boat with its paw. So it kind of sits in a weird place where they're not typical movie human-like animals that talk, but also not believably normal animals.

Nature is treacherous and wonderous, this movie reflects that all too well and doesn't use words to convey it.

Broadly bold, but quite conventional on a scene-by-scene basis. This is a stronger and better-looking movie than Zilbalodis’ debut feature, but it doesn’t have the same elliptical intrigue. The animal behavior throughout also felt wildly inconsistent to me; at times, it’s very lifelike, but it sometimes gives way to caricature and at other times, feels human well past the point of plausibility. Not at all unpleasant, but a touch cloying and more tonally contemplative than meaningfully chewy.

Not obsessed with the animation style, but the composition of almost every shot is beautifully constructed. The pacing suffers at times but it didn't bore me. Very cute.

Kinda cute but I can't help but feel like I just watched a supercut of video game cutscenes.

There really aren't many movies starring mainly animals where they don't just act like humans, and I always found that a bit sad.

As a cat person, this was my kind of adventure. Captures the animal spirit and nature's dangers. Wants to be a little spiritual at times, but most of the time it's animals vs the environment in all its purity.
