Disney's live action dabblings have, for the most part, been forgotten with time. This is one of the better ones, but it still doesn't top the classics. It's a decent flick, a little dated, and I had to deduct points for Paul Rubens as the most irritating spaceship ever. Yes, you heard that right. Pee Wee Herman plays a spaceship

I liked all the weird creatures as a kid. Also the idea of havnig my own spaceship was pretty amazing. It's very 80s but still a great kids film

Something of a missed opportunity (but still a great kids film). The first half of the film is by far the stronger, until the point where the plot runs out before the film does. Huge potential for a great story turns into little more than lots of arial camera work and some clever (for the 80's) CGI for the ship. Harmless family fun but could have been much better with a better script.

A story about a boy who gets raped in the woods by the freak whose name is Max and his mind invents a story about aliens and spaceships as a coping mechanism. It's a classic case of PTSD. If not no over-analyze, Flight of the Navigator is a fairly decent sci-fi for kids, until main character gets to the spaceship. Then it starts looking like an early morning TV movie.

Gets higher points for sentimentality. The ships personality comes off more insane than I remember as a child.

Rewatch: After having forgotten most of the plot, the time skip came as a pleasant and unexpected surprise. Combined with how cool the exterior of the vessel looks my expectations were raised - then pissed on by NASA's robot dog. The talking ship is awful and its obnoxiousness infects the previously bearable kid. By the time they started butchering my 2nd favourite Beach Boy's song all previous goodwill was expended.

Might be over scoring it because I remember how awesome it was when I first saw it, but it still held up when I saw it again a few years ago, so maybe not

A film I just loved as a kid. It still holds a certain charm for me, and I still find it quite entertaining even now. The special effects are really quite nice for a film of its age. It sets a good standard for childrens science fiction.

Awesome thoughout. Great entertainment value plus it forced me as a child to consider some pretty profound thought. The movie is well-cast and the effects were way ahead of their time. Also, my name is Jeffrey and I was an annoying little brother, just like the Jeffrey in the movie.

Entertaining escapist adventure for kids, until the ship adopts the "silly Pee Wee Herman" voice. At that point, it became too irritating for me to care anymore.

For a long time, I really thought the voice of the alien ship was just really good at imitating Pee-Wee Herman. Um. Then I found out it was actually him. Anyways, it's a great family movie, and probably one of my favorites when I was growing up. This is a must-see for anyone who loved 80's kid-adventure movies like The Goonies.

Pure child escapism, but fun and damnit, that kid was handing a mint-in-box Starscream in exchange for alien secrets- do you have any idea how much that figure is worth now? Talk, kid!

Highly cheesy kids' sci-fi adventure which has not stood the test of time too well. But then, who likes being transported years into the future and analysed? Kleiser is not bad with this sort of material but compared to E.T., FotN lacks the human, family element. There's a bit much boy-and-ship time, and not enough Veronica Cartwright and Sarah Jessica Parker. Going into the Frank Oz world of animatronic furries was amusing but unnecessary. Plus, the kid's character was all stereotype, no cools.

I tracked this down as I had fond memories of it from my childhood. Not surprisingly, It didn't really live up to them. It starts off quite promisingly by emulating Spielberg's formula and provides plenty of nostalgia for kids of 70/80's. There's even a young Sarah Jessica Parker. As it progresses, it turns more comedic and it becomes evident that the script and FX are lacking. The premise is interesting and it's a pity that the film never reaches it's full potential.

Not just for kids. I'm 68, seen it 11 times, and it's still good. Most of the adventure and emotional moments are not as good as when first viewed, but the humor is still there. Humor is the best part of any movie.

Yeah, this is a pretty solid kids' adventure, with more seriousness than a lot of similar movies of the time - which probably didn't help it at the box office. Honestly, while the Pee Wee voice is mildly annoying, it fits better than I expected into the narrative and the overall vibe, and the level of agency the kid ultimately has is absolutely high-level wish fulfillment material. This is one that should go in the "to remake" pile.

Peewee as the spaceship has got to be one of the worst casting choices that Disney has ever made, and I can't fathom why they went that direction. Besides that, though, this has some cute moments but is unfortunately largely forgettable for me- despite being talked up VERY much by its devoted fans. The acting is fine and the story is fine, but that's all it really is. Just fine. I wanted a bit more, and sadly didn't get it. The score is pretty great, though.

I'll be honest. I hate this movie. It's kind of a cheap Disney knock-off of the kind of movies Spielberg produced in this era, and I'm not even a fan of the actual Spielberg productions. The set up of this one is intriguing, but the script is full of giant gaping holes, and the entire last act is just this horrible little kid dicking around with the spaceship.

Flight of the Navigator has its charms, but that's not enough to detract from the trope-ridden plot and awkwardly delivered dialogue. I liked Silvestri's score, but there's really nothing impactful nor memorable in this film for an adult discovering in 2020.

One of those rare kids films that captures something of the sublime, alongside feel-good escapist plotting and a killer synth soundtrack. As an adult it's easy to wish for more complexity (David's crush/Carolyn etc), but the positive theming and characterisation remains intensely moving and uplifting. Credit to the filmmakers/Cramer for the avowedly sensitive and emotive portrayal of David that no doubt had a huge influence on me. It's good for young boys to see boys crying on the big screen.
