Flammen & Citronen

Many things are good with this film. The cinematography is excellent, as are most of the performances and the music. However, overall it comes across a little too dark and depressing to seriously engage most viewers. There is no real message, although the final shootout is great. A good film but not a great one.

Good cinematography, mediocre story. Interesting that it portrays danish resistance heroes as psychotic killers without a cause. Otherwise unremarkable WWII thriller.

A classic example of overreaching trying to blend action, drama and romance - and ending up coming across halfbaked and almost (and really damaging in a film about conviction and 'the good fight') halfhearted. Strong performances, solid 40s feel and really great cinematography (constantly switching it up between balanced and deliberately unbalanced shots, drawing heavily on lighting/shadows) makes it worth a watch though.

Great. True story about two Danish resistance members during WW2 who face death and deception at every turn. This is one of the best WW2 era movies I've been fortunate enough to watch, it shows the war heroes not as bright eyed infallible heroes but as good, honest people who often doubt their own convictions. This has gorgeous cinematography, perfect direction and excellent acting. Definitely recommended.

Humming with paranoia, femmes fatales, and good men inevitably losing their souls to the ruthless quicksand of war, this stunningly good Danish resistance opus combines atypical and moody noir elements with a more modern sense of nuance and complexity: At the same time the filmmakers are skillful at placing us in Nazi-occupied Copenhagen, the film also emerges as a mystery about who the two comrades can trust besides each other, a question which results in deep foreboding and merciless suspense.

The real star of this film is the cinematography and art direction. Its beautifully shot and really makes one feel like they're in Denmark circa WWII. The acting for the most part was great. Mads Mikkelsen overacted a little bit but not enough to ruin the film. The main problem is the screenplay's failure to assert a dominant genre. In the end the audience is given neither a credible romantic interest or antagonistic foil. Both aspects feel underdeveloped and thus underwhelming.

loved this movie, the whole underground war effort aspect of world war two is horribly underused. i also have always dug mikkelsen, entertaining story, well filmed, the only complaint i have is the ending, although it's an aspect that could have been done much worse.

Good performance, and nice camerawork. But the story doesn't offer everything I wanted, and it seem to lack something.

Not surprised to find out that this is one of the most expensive films in the history of Danish cinema--it looks it. Content-wise, however, it's about what'd you'd expect from a Danish movie: Mediocre.

Weak acting and a strangely negative view on the danish world war 2 resistance helps me to one conclusion. I hate danish filmmaking !!!

Good shit. More brutal and aware than Max Manus (an obvious if unfruitful comparison) and with a mood giving associations to afflicted noir.

well, there is nothing to say special about this movie is there? Again it's just another resistance against Nazis movie except it's in Denmark. You should watch Melville's tour de force L'Armee des Ombres instead.

Good movie. Stories about the heroes of Europe and US during WW2 are usually good ways of spending time! Wish this one could have shown more of the intenseness that there must have been.
