Imagine a time when a pilot could rebuild the motor of his crashed passenger plane in the jungle. That time was 1939, depicted in Dalton Trumbo's "Five Came Back." This story, penned by one of my favorite screenwriters, features Lucille Ball as a fallen angel infatuated with the pilot, adding a layer of romantic drama to the struggle for survival. It's not a masterpiece, but it's definitely watchable.

12 in a plane crash... only 5 will survive. Fascinating story with some damn fine character actors filling the 12 spots. Basically a B-movie with soul. Great idea, but with some weak periods keeping it from becoming a universally loved RKO film.
