Why does Harrison Ford's family always get kidnapped? Bad guys must hate him.

Filled with plot-holes and mediocre characterizations. Paul Bettany makes a decent villain, but he is in an otherwise ho-hum film that lacks fun or suspense.

Oh Harrison Ford, how the mighty have fallen into mediocrity. Harrison Ford, again, plays the concerned father that must save his family from certain death at the hands of someone who blackmails him. Firewall isn't bad per-se but the word "mediocre" perfectly describes this film. Well, that's not entirely true. The ludicrous techno-babble makes it a bit worse than that. Honestly if you have any concept of technology this movie will be making you roll your eyes almost outside your head.

A rare bomb from Ford. The plot is paper thin, the acting is lazy (except for Bettany), and you have zero empathy for the characters. Thumbs down.

Apart from the emphasis on the latest technology, the script feels sort of like early 1990s suspense fare, which I guess made it a fitting Harrison Ford vehicle, for those who remembered "The Fugitive". It's pedestrian and unrealistic, but really not as bad as some others have rated it. The cast is fine, and though Rifftrax mocked his low energy and perpetual raspy groan, Ford in his sixties is honestly still a captivating actor.

Incredibly pedestrian movie that takes no risks and is wholly uninteresting. The only really thrilling part is the fight at the end, which is messy and believable.

Bank security expert Jack Stanfield (Harrison Ford) builds a career on his expertise in designing theft-proof computer systems for financial institutions. However, a criminal mastermind (Paul Bettany) kidnaps his family, and he must work feverishly to find a way to break into his own system and steal $100 million, for the lives of his loved ones hang in the balance.

Firewall effectively milks Ford's everyman heroism down to the last drop. I found myself caring that his family's lives depended upon him cooperating with his captors. I worried that he seemingly had nowhere to turn. And despite how predictable such endings might be I enjoyed the fact that the good guys win and the Stanfields emerge unscathed, arm in arm, after Dad saves the day. (pluggedin.com)

Most of this movie falls flat. Performances were sometimes acceptable but the plot was convoluted and almost entirely unconvincing. For all their supposed sophistication the criminals turn out to be inept. There were many tense moments. Music was mostly good. There is not much action except in the final minutes. Damn that IT computer geek can fight, ha ha!

Does Firewall work? Not exactly well enough to recommend, but enough that it won't exactly be unpleasant to watch if it comes on the television late at night and you have nothing better to do or can't find the remote. It's a generic thriller with a predictable plot and only one actor and character that genuinely matters. It has a few suspenseful moments, and it has a charm to it at the beginning (which is unfortunately dropped later on), and it isn't a complete waste of time. It's harmless.

One of the many disappointments of Firewall is how it squanders its own cast. Good character actors, including Robert Forster and Alan Arkin, are wasted--literally, in some cases, as the body count piles up.

It was nothing special, but I can't say it was a bad way to spend some time. While I wouldn't advise seeking it out, if it were on tv and the next best option was America's Next Top Model, I'd go with this.

It's kind of nice to see Harrison Ford as an action star who isn't Indiana Jones. The plot doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense, but I think he played a really believable hero in this movie.

Harrison Ford is half asleep, and so his family is kidnapped. He kills a guy at the end, I think. God this movie was boring.
Edit (4/25/2013): Holy shit, I just found out Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was in this movie. Doesn't save it from being supremely boring though.

Ridiculous heist-and-hostage thriller that requires the retirement-age Harrison Ford to shoulder altogether too much of the burden of heroics -- all of it, to be exact -- as much as Jean-Claude Van Damme shouldered at half the age. And this in the role of a family-man Seattle banker! Not an ex-Navy-SEAL banker, not a former-FBI-agent banker, just a plain old banker, a computer geek. The clichés come in bunches. Because the story is set in Seattle, it must rain ninety percent of the time

While I'll usually ignore technological B/S for the sake of good story/acting/effects, Firewall went too far. The plot was a predictable re-hash of past movies and well, I started forgetting about it the moment it finished, if not before.

The previews said this was Harrison Ford's best. It's actually his worst. A very dumb plot filled with even dumber characters. Ford is the only one who seems to be acting, and manages to add some tension, but it just isn't worth it in the end. Skip it.

Judging by the other reviews I'm out of sync, but then I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. True its not a hard hitting shoot-em up but its not a bad psychological thriller. More to the point it's entirely possible. Under-rated in my opinion.

It's slick and intriguing enough to be a decent watch, but the movie serves no purpose. The bad guys don't want revenge, they don't want to make a statement. Greed is their motive. They just want the money. ... Ditto the film-makers. Harrison Ford is getting too bloody old for this.
