The scenes in the spaceship, when we finally get to them over an hour in, are pretty awesome. I wish there were more of them, because the movie is pretty boring otherwise.

Had a bit of an X-Files/TV show vibe. The drama around the abduction story was interesting enough, if a bit slow and soap opera-ish. The cast was fine, working from a fairly utilitarian script, but the plot itself felt a bit unresolved. The film really peaks with a very effective and unsettling spaceship sequence - impressive. This film is worth a look, but perhaps temper your expectations and exercise patience.

In my alternate-universe head, this is what happens when the kids from "Explorers" get older, start taking regular trips into space, get drunk and piss off a bunch of aliens.

Excellent acting, and pretty gut-wrenching. That one scene on the ship where he's being dragged and you see this pair of glasses spinning in the low gravity... how horrible would that have been, on top of everything else, to lose your glasses right there?

Everything before the abduction scene is so bland, flat and uninteresting that you can't even fathom what you're seeing when it happens. It's so disorienting and harrowing.

This isn't a big budget production and it shows. Much of the movie feels like a direct-to-TV thriller, but, if you've got the patience, man does the final act really deliver. Close Encounters of the Third Kind feels like a more studio-friendly version of the same kind of story, but where Spielberg opted to be a bit too coy with the subject matter, Fire in the Sky tackles alien abduction head-on and boasts special effects that are still surprisingly convincing even by today's standards.

Top badass moment? When it briefly turns into the scary big brother of Alien. The rest is more Dukes of Hazard than Close Encounters. 6 chainsaws, no cats or decapitations. Some Stihl and (I think) McCulloch saws in action. We get to see the result of a chain impacting a hand, which is a bit ironic as the only PPE anyone actually seemed to be wearing were gloves. And the Alpha Male behaviour at times is shocking. As for the tree felling and chain management techniques demonstrated. Oh dear...

I see why the director made this movie: he wanted to show the events inside the alien ship. Too bad he also had to make the rest of the movie. This should have been a short film showing the abduction and the events in the ship, because those fifteen minutes were some of the best sci-fi horror I've seen. Too bad I had to sit through another hour and a half of mediocrity to get to them.

I used to love this movie the same way I used to believe that The X-files was actually based on real events...

Almost all of the score for this movie goes towards the awful and inhuman abduction and the scene on the ship. Those few minutes on-screen make up for much of the plodding pacing that comes before and after. However, I must agree with most commenters here that this scene is the highlight of the movie, and you can about 90% of the 'juice' of the movie just by watching this scene. Still, it's far from terrible... just a bit boring.

Meh. The best parts of the film are the scenes on the ship, but that's about ten minutes of the running time.

Finally got around to watching this often highly touted flick a while ago. I don't get what the rather large ratings are all about, mind you the sub genre is not my favorite. There are far too many lulls in the story to have kept me super interested, maybe with some heavy editing I would have enjoyed it more.

Saw this in the theater originally and I remember that it built up some fantastic suspense. The spaceship scene was pretty good and worth the price of admission. However it was nothing special and the story was plodding at times.

Terrible acting on everyone's part, especially the women. Right when things get interesting, they decide to ruin it with their 'emotions'. The best part was the ship, should have made that more of the movie..

I’m fairly skeptical of the “based on a true story” claim, but what’s here is moderately interesting if often long winded, meandering and with an overlarge cast not all distinguished from each other. Final alien sequence is rather disturbing.

This was a mystery movie at the Prince Charles Cinema and for most of it I was confused and honestly kind of annoyed that they chose this one to play. Then the scenes in the ship happened and they’re genuinely incredible yeah but they’re also like 10% of the movie and the rest is insanely “mid”, as the kids these days say.

Has gotten a good reputation off the back of one scene towards the end of the movie, but 90% of this is amateurish overacting and people yelling at each other (even Robert Patrick is bad). I burst out laughing at the setup to the abduction memory because the girlfriend character is just screaming at the poor bastard hiding under a table having a PTSD episode. Just watch "the scene" on youtube and skip the actual movie.

Never strong enough in any one aspect to justify the time spent, with the exception of an imaginative depiction of an alien ship. With some better writing and acting it could have been fantastic.

Torme adapted Wilson's book _The Walton Experience_, the supposedly true story of his abduction by aliens. The always likable Sweeney is good as Wilson and there's a telling cameo by a rock-solid James Garner, but how much you warm up to this rather tepid sci-fi drama will depend entirely on how much of it you're willing to believe.

This is a crazy movie. When the guy returns back to Earth after his trip to where ever he went is startling, trying to make a phonecall to someone and not having any belongings or any idea where he is.
