Standard issue silly teen slasher done with style and finesse; not quite a broad send-up or deconstruction like SCREAM, but clearly inspired by and modelled on it. Doesn't hurt that its premise is an irresistible one and that the screenplay does a pretty noble effort of using, exploiting and even developing the premise in interesting ways. Always helps in best of these to have a likable cast as is the case here; this ultimately breaks no new ground, but it is a very entertaining genre entry.

A good idea for a horror movie, it's a little raw. What a fantastic opportunity for Tony Todd to jump into a series though. Jumping from the Candyman series to this is equivalent to getting off that plane.

A fun horror film. I did find the end funny. It flashes 6 months later, and the characters have a conversation that certainly would have been had earlier. How can you explain Devon Sawa as a teen heartthrob with that cool hair flip to teens nowadays?

Much like how the Purge franchise spawned off the back of a Star Trek premise, Final Destination ran a Twilight Zone idea into the ground for five movies. But these characters suck. Just bland teens getting hit by trains and buses. Is it tapping into America's fear of public transportation?

I guess death loves Rube Goldberg machines. Even with more exposition than you can shake a stick at, the rules of the premise still fall apart if you think about them to any real degree. One of the cops being named Shrek is super distracting

Top badass moment? The vodka that cracks the cup; I want it. Now that's what I call REAL vodka. I've days like Alex, except my premonitions are always for another dull day ahead; and if I’m honest they're more of a memory of yesterday than a vision of tomorrow. But often very accurate. This is a decent film, although it was rather losing it a bit by the time the cable started to behave like an Anaconda that’d eaten a bowl of Carolina Reaper chillies. 1 decapitation, no cats or chainsaws.

Creative deaths in horror don't usually do anything for me, but they work here, maybe because there's no killer. It really takes it's time setting up the tension for every scene, which is risky, but every time the payoff is worth it. The fate angle I'm not a big fan of, but I like the way it mixes it with a dash of free will and a reliance on causality. It's not a deep film, but it provides some interesting things to think about with its premise, which is enough given how fun it is to watch.

Final Destination is ultimately a very enjoyable film -- if you enjoy watching teenagers die in random, complex and fascinating ways. If you have, I don't know, a shred of empathy for human beings, this might not be for you. But I had a really fun time with it and would recommend it for fans of the teen slasher genre. Death makes a pretty good murderer, when you think about it.

When it first came out, it was fresh and interesting, complex enough to leave you guessing, but not too much. It was fun how all the little details were putting you on the trail or leading you the wrong way, with foreshadowing and the character's paranoia mixing until you saw the death happening and went, oh yeah! It also left quite many of us paranoid of all the ways little accidents could take place and kill us, so bravo.

The trouble with almost all horror films is the lack of humanness, quality acting and character development. Because of this, most horror just becomes synonymous with camp. I don't see the entertainment value in campy horror films. While this is far from a perfect film, it has those rare qualities that most horror films lack. Its premise might be silly, but the film takes itself seriously, and that's why it succeeds. I typically hate horror films, but this one works. It's clever and well made.

Following up Scream with any other traditional slasher movie would be pointless, so Final Destination just strips away the idea of the antagonist and replaces it with death itself. It's not a terrible idea and all things considered as the deaths are interesting enough to support the runtime. That script can't overcome the fact that this is... well... itself. But hey, it tried?

The premise is here. Personifying death like the film does could be pretty cheesy, but they avoid that for the most part. The characters, especially the particularly forced love story, just are not that interesting. Even the actors playing them don't really do much with the roles either.

You know what's frightening? The inevitability of death, of knowing that there is nothing you can do to prevent yourself from dying. Final Destination gets this feeling right so well as we see kids seemingly cheat death only to find out that that's impossible. In horror films, it's annoying when the characters act so stupid, but in this case, what can they do? Their reactions are understandable and that's why the film works. Plus there's some cool deaths and that mortician character, love him.

I didn't see this film until many years later, because when it came out I figured it was just another lame Scream-ripoff with good looking teens hunted by a killer. It was a pleasant surprise to find an original premise and an enjoyable horror movie. The sequels are sillier and have more elaborate death scenes, but the original has a better story. The opening scene is legendary, and guaranteed to give you a fear of flying.

Wasn't surprised to find out this was written/directed and filmed in Vancouver by a bunch of people who were responsible for some of the best X Files episodes. That's what it feels like; a solid standalone X File premise extended to feature length. It's an intelligent and original horror premise that appreciates the underlying absurdity of its story and never takes itself too seriously.

Interesting premise which is executed very poorly. It walks a tightrope between horror and slapstick and much of it turns out to be neither - the setpieces seem designed to create comedy but the direction seems to indicate horror - and because the film never really pushes in either direction we have a bland, poorly acted, heavily telegraphed film with just a few good gags here and there and no real dread. The acting is, across the board, utter shit too.

The idea that a person can predict the deaths of people is an interesting idea, but in Final Destination it isn't really well plotted out. The acting in the movie is pretty poor. This movie really is a throwback to the beginnings of the WB. The actors of this movie are a time capsule of the type of actors and actresses of the late 90's and early 2000's. It wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't that good either.

A fun take on the teen-slasher. Sawa, Detmer and Smith aren't the Oscar winning type, so it goes without saying that the acting in the film is sub-par at best, but Larter and Cloke manage to save several scenes. The plot is the only asset this film has or needs. It's individuality is it's strongest suit, and even with completely predictability, "Final Destination" manages to thrill and even be considered a top horror film of the decade.
