The ending crushed me 💔

The movie masterfully conveys tension and anxiety, it feels asphyxiating; the cinematography is pretty good, and the performances are great. It's an overall interesting story with a good script.

Boasting two very strong lead performances, "Femme" is a powerful, captivating watch that achieves a very delicate balance. It's brutal and unsettling without being exploitative, it's liberating without being mawkish, and it pulls no punches without being one-dimensional. A lot of it is down to the convincing, multi-faceted characters, the changes they go through and the fact that the film keeps you guessing as to their motives and feelings, thus posing some significant questions in the process.

Doesn't really manage to transcend the psychological clichés, and ends up operatic despite its pretense to authenticity. Its designation as a thriller is misleading, so if you expect building tension and some bombshell climax you'll be thoroughly underwhelmed. It's about how everybody has feelings, in case you need that shown to you.

As much as I’m tired of gay films with internalized homophobia being at the forefront, I’ve got to hand it to this one for the moral ambiguity. The characters are well written and go through a ton of development, the performances are excellent, and the plot is actually pretty unique. The protagonist’s actions are pretty baffling at times and lack consistency, but the circumstances make it seem realistic enough. Not to mention the real gut punch of an ending.

It took me a few days of thinking back about it to +5 it mostly on account of the awesome full range performance by MacKay. This guy can act! A queer revenge film that goes where you think it goes but it does that pretty elegantly
