Near the remains of an iron factory, an old painter faces the challenges of creation, as his longtime muse has not appeared in some time. A young girl lends her curiosity to discover what it is that holds the old painter back. Her mother tells her a bedtime story to which brings understanding of the relationship between the abandoned factory and the lonely artist nearby. (Back Cover)

Strange and gorgeous.

This debut shows great effort expended on the construction of images but the characters are ciphers (a generous interpretation would say archetypes, I suppose) and the narrative, insofar as there is one, is not just abstract but verging on trite. Hard not to feel that the mistake here is to have seen masterpieces and concluded that striving for anything less means failure as an artist, and so to try and emulate them but without having gained a feeling for the relationship between life and art.

This has some great visuals, interesting dialogue and a haunting score but I found myself growing bored throughout the 67 minute running time.
