I find the idea of the movie hilarious and brilliant, but the execution definitely can't live up to it.

Good idea and decent execution. Goggins is so distractingly weird-looking. Little shite was little shite. The pace was decent and didn't lag too much. The movie really lost me for awhile when Goggins started killing USPS workers for seemingly no reason. It didn't make sense on his end and was a cheap shortcut to make him the bad guy versus a smart assassin. Fav scene: the standoff was great, with the tropey yelling across a great distance, the tactical mismatch, and being separated by firewood.

Initially I thought Gibson was miscast since there's nothing about him that exudes a Claus-like warmth (in a scene where he steers a husband away from temptation, I was expecting the guy to get punched) but by the end I changed my mind completely. This is a movie that often feels as "off" as you'd expect a depressed Santa to be, but it's always compelling in its strangeness. The military stuff also feels contrived but the last third has real stakes, solid shootouts & 2 great showdowns.

Feels like a concept of a movie that was brainstormed one day and straight into filming the next. The (brilliant) trailer showed how much potential there is in this idea, but the execution is disappointing, with bits and bobs of ideas thrown in willy-nilly (what IS the point of the military involvement here?) and the feeling of a production that never truly knew where it was going. It's not terrible though: Goggins is always worth a watch, and it's not as much of a letdown as 2004's Bad Santa.

There was a time when I could not get enough of Mel Gibson, but those days are long gone. Walter Goggins drags this down like pretty much every movie he has ever been in. It was a black comedy with a hitman trying to kill a crusty version of Santa. Some of it was really awful. Re: The black Mrs. Claus with a British accent, can't we get a break from this PC horse manure? It was somewhat watchable and slightly entertaining. Basically, it's pure garbage with a little shock value.

I liked it for what it was. I like the idea of a miserable Santa who has to find the light in his eyes again.

Mel Gibson & Kurt Russell co-starred in TEQUILA SUNRISE along with Michelle Pfeiffer. now Gibson & Russell have each made movies in which they play Santa Claus. please call me when Michelle Pfeiffer makes her Santa Claus movie.

The premise is hilarious, yet the movie plays everything so straight that it becomes even harder to take seriously. The movie paints up Mel's Santa as broken by the realities of Christmas, but the film frames this too broadly and vaguely to mean anything. The hitman character stole the show; the guy kills people for seemingly no reason and has no sense of subtlety despite his profession. Even more funny is the absurd motivation he has for going after Santa and the caricature of a contractor.

Significantly worse than Violent Night. I actually thought Santa picking up government contracts to stay afloat was a funny idea, but this movie isn’t worth anyone’s time. Goggins couldn’t do enough with the terrible writing around him and everything with the kid was practically unwatchable.

Mel Gibson is mailing it in. Walton Goggins has some moments. The dialogue and story are so ridiculous that there are a few laughs, but overall this is more bad than so bad its good. The third main character is a kid and the evil kid is some fun, but this feels a bit forced and disconnected from the story.

"Fatman" envisions Santa as a gruff, disgruntled, and disillusioned man navigating government contracts and public disapproval. It's an utterly unique take on the story, and one that makes for a movie that is just as entertaining as it sounds. If you've ever wondered what a gritty Santa Claus movie is like, then you should take a moment to reflect on if you need to see someone for psychiatric treatment, and when you're done, go watch this movie, it's awesome.

Painfully boring with a couple ideas at the edge that would've been fascinating to see a competent writer/director take on.

Every year I keep hoping to get a feature film of "The Night The Died" and every year I am disappointed. This was entertaining but it took too long to get to the point and there wasn't enough Mel Gibson.

I thought the idea was great, and Mel Gibson and Walton Goggins both did a great job in their roles, but unfortunately, it feels like the set up doesn't really have a good enough payoff. It almost feels like they rushed the ending, which sucks, because everything leading up to it was entertaining, but that entertainment was sort of killed off by a rushed ending. More time should have been spent on making sure the climax was exciting.

An unpretentious flick, but I was hoping for even more of a laid-back feel and for the film not to take itself seriously at all + I was hoping for more self-indulgence/silly humour. Didn't get it. It was seemingly unconventional, but alas not in reality. An original premise indeed, and that was all it had - very formulaic through and through with questionable cast and uninspired acting. The premise was BEGGING for boundaries to be pushed, but it remained in a safe space. Sigh. Passes the time.

Taking this premise and playing it straight, made the film kinda boring overall. The end result is a made for tv/straight to video 90's-esque genre film (like the crap Anchor Bay used to churn out) It's not the worst thing ever, but could have been so much better.

Very weird choices all around, but it's watchable. A bit slow moving in the middle, but it was fun to discover bits of the odd Santa lore they made.
