Andy Lau plays the Mahjong Warrior, who seem not to be able to lose. Rich as he may be, life is not so simple: by chance he finds his lost mother who now has Alzheimer's, a brother who lost his riches in the dot com bubble, and a girlfriend intent on getting back with him. Add this to a gangster rap of a underground mahjong circle (as underground as the local comedy burger bar, mind you), mix thoroughly and you have a kaleidoscope of humour that will tickle you for an hour and a half. I had no idea what was going on in the beginning with the girlfriend, but then it becomes a normal hero's journey with not enough Louis Koo but a good villain in Ching Wan Lau. I wish I understood the rules of mahjong. Fav scenes: I liked the interactions with Ching Wan Lau's dad played by Tian Lin Wang. He's like the wise uncle in Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Supportive even when his son's being an ass; counsels him when to give up.

I don't now what it is about Andy Lau but for some reason he can always be counted on to make any movie better. This is a pretty average film that is made better by three characters, Andy Lau, the always fun Sean Lau, and Bonnie Wong as the crazy mother. The biggest surprise was finding out during the end credits that it was co-directed by Johnnie To.

the CHUNGKING EXPRESS parody is priceless though.
