Amusing enough, but roadrunner cartoons don't really do it for me.

Out of all the Looney Tunes shorts, I always liked the Wile E. Coyote ones the best. One can tell Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese had already mastered the form when they created the the coyote and the Road Runner. They knew exactly what they wanted and thus, these characters haven't needed to evolve much. All the memorable and ridiculously circuitous gags work even from this very first short.

Getting what may well be the greatest cartoon series of them all off to a rockin' start, with a host of Acme miscues, that bird sticking his tongue out over and over again and even the laws of physics being contravened...anything to keep our good friend, the coyote, down.

The lack of spoken dialogue immediately sets this series apart. IMO only Jones could have pulled it off; the other directors had their talents but none had his knack for picking the kind of poses and expressions that made words unnecessary.

Coyote and Road-Runner was actually my least favorite series as a kid, but now I can seee the artistry in them much better.
