What it might lack in originality, it makes up for in spades in sensuous detail, verisimilitude and atmosphere. I felt transported to the Canadian summer, tasting and feeling the same sensations as the characters. Absolutely intoxicating work on that front. Everything is a bit dreamlike like summer break can be. Both main actors are achingly believable, but a few English speaking kids bring a bit of artifice. The ending miffed me at first, but as I sit on it I enjoy it more and more.

The two leads were excellent. Very good non-verbal communication by the young boy that hammers home that feeling of inadequacy of being the youngest in a group of older kids, especially when you have feelings for one of the girls. I felt like it flew by actually despite being deliberately paced in some areas. Very strong 7.6

The script is your typical coming of age story. There is not much new in the script. What makes this film worth watching is good performances from the 2 leads. Overall I would recommend this film,

A forgettable coming-of-age tale we've already seen a dozen times before, with an awkwardly thrown in 'ghost' angle that - as opposed to let's say A Ghost Story - feels incredibly jarring. There's also a very annoying trend happening with arthouse movies these days in how filmmakers lazily resort to killing off one of their main characters when they have no idea how to develop their story in a more memorable fashion.

How the delicate nature of conversation can upend everything you think about a person and your dynamic. Couldn’t help but think of Cold Water by Assayas

I’m a sucker for most movies involving teens in the summer time especially done in such a poetic way like this. Handles the sexuality with care and straddles the line of being weirdly explorative/creepy well. Loses itself in the end when it ends up becoming the metaphor it was building all movie.
