Failan

I can't remember another film off the top of my head where the two main characters haven't really met but the chemistry and feelings towards one another works as well as in Failan.

I am haunted, such a film cannot exist. I woke up the other day, feeling like I had a dream. This is the perfection of cinema, the most heartbreaking of all stories, the painful truth of love. I cannot express the pain in words. I am aching, together with them, the singing failan (Oh god I am crying right now... I cannot contain this film....) and the sea :(

Not uplifting but beautiful anyway

One of the most gut-wrenching love stories on film with a staggering lead performance by Choi Min-sik.

Easily one of the most heart-touching romances I've ever seen, and the main characters hardly see each other. Fantastic performance by Choi Min-sik (of Oldboy fame)

What an incredibly depressing film. The first act, I felt, was kind of drawn-out and tedious, but it does establish some really important points later on. I don't know if I'd say I "enjoyed" this, but I liked it. It's definitely not for everyone, hence the score, but it at least felt pretty original. Check it out if you want something different and don't mind hopeless stuff.
