While this film had no real film-making talent behind it, I still found it to be interesting. It provoked some thoughts in my mind that most people have a hard time bringing out (and for good reason!) in everyday life. Lets face it, there's something inside us all that causes us to look when we see a traffic accident or a horrific bloodbath. In that aspect this movie serves its purpose. Although the moral fags may have a tough time with this, it ended up being worth a watch or two.

The beginning of the wanna-be reality trend..the thin line between snuff, reality and fake situations. Some snippets are real others ( the most of it ) are faked especially in the sequels. Faces of Death isn't shocking or cool just 90 mins of bullshit. better watch the guinea parts...

Starts off on a vaguely eerie tone but very quickly it becomes apparent that this is heading into pure bullshit territory. The value of the narration is solely the pleasure of hearing a blathering idiot stating either the blatantly obvious or the tragically ignorant. In terms of 'the goods' it's quite tame, and, once again, the real pleasure comes from the shit faux croc/bear attack and similarly fraudulent violence. It's equivalent to a dumb carnival house of horrors for gorehounds.

Not completely without some level of merit, honestly. But it's mostly just dull, boring, and trashy on a variety of levels. At least I crossed it off the list, & now I firmly know this is one series I will not be completing.

Bad, but interesting. You could see how this was a racy movie back in the late 70's, but by now it's just a feux documentary with some dated effects and a little bit of real footage thrown in.

The Holy Grail of movies when I was a death & gore obsessed kid. Finally got my hands on at it 14 or so & it was a terrible disappointment even then. Most of it was obviously fake & I could watch open heart surgery on TLC for fuck's sake! I appreciate it more now, actually, as a product of its time & a cheesy sort-of classic. Really bad, but nice to see it again.

I'm not sure what I was expecting here. Much of the film was just slow and boring, e.g. who hasn't seen scenes from a slaughterhouse, or an operating table? Maybe this stuff shocks teenagers or the frail-hearted. The segment I found most disturbing was the electric chair victim. Whether this was a true snuff movie or not, in future I'll stick to gory fictional horror for better bang-for-the-buck. Oh, did I mention the pacing was far too slow?

Surprisingly hard stuff, given what the series would later become, but still essentially like a kid's version of Executions.

Eventually this comes an unbearably grim assault on your eyes, immensely dated, and with the fake deaths mixed with real ones, pointlessly tasteless. At least with something like Africa addio (1966), no matter how morally questionable it is, the creators were going for a serious message. Warning people about the obvious dangers of woodland bears and the wheel of fortune of life and death is not the same. And dear Lord the end credits with *that* song is atrocious.

Reminds me of Cannibal Holocaust, where the blending of fact and fiction create a disturbing whole. Not as good as Deodato's film, but still worth watching from a historical perspective. Also, to anyone who doesn't think this film contains "no filmmaking talent," listen to the audio commentary. It's fascinating.

One cannot enjoy the "Faces of Death" series like you could other extreme horrors, that is to say that it is impossible to enjoy on any level.

Documentary? I don't know about that. Morbidly interesting on occasion. Mostly amateurish, sleazy and gratuitous though. And silly. It's kind of required viewing for gorehounds, but outside of that I wouldn't recommend it.

I was surprised to discover that environmentalism and animal rights are big topics in this 'documentary'. PETA uses same awareness raising techniques these days too. For me animal killing scenes were the hardest to get through, but after that it gets pointless, with the exception of anti-death penalty bit. Overall it's not as bad as I expected, but nothing I would like to see again.

Hilarious pure exploitation. Since the director couldn't make a snuff film they did the next best thing and made a phony voyeuristic exploitation flick poorly disguised as a documentary. The narrator is amusing mostly because of his deadpan monotone voice and his silly 70's look. Anyways, most of the "deaths" are humorously staged. This is more or less just a trashy curiosity for those with morbid tastes.

Sadly this isn''t the worst movie I've ever seen, but its pretty damn close. Just horrible, utter garbage. The fact that this is called a documentary is an insult to documentaries.

This represent in part of what is or what really happens in real life ( some of the scenes are fake though but still all that presented the movie is already being practiced in some parts of the world), it's not the greatest of a movie and it eventually gets more and more boring but I'd recommend watching it not for it's gore content but to see a world on a reality perspective and to see some part of what mainstream media doesn't show you. of course if you have a weak stomach then don't watch it.

This is pure trash with amusing editing work. Slaughterhouse footage is terrible. If you do watch this make sure you watch it with the commentary track because they'll go "fake, that's fake, haha what were we thinking etc"

A little slice of gore and depravity for the sadist in all of us. Disclaimer: Do not watch if you have a weak stomach, are an animal rights activist, or lead some kind of existence where you stress the importance, dignity, and sanctity of human life.
