Face to Face

Fairly beautliful piece of narrative subversion. We watch the slow, believable descent of a "decent", intellectual man into primal debasement, and never once flinch. That's the strength of the telling at work. Perhaps the zenith of Sollima's narrative archetype of the doppelgänger on full display.

The sound mixing is rough (Big surprise in a spaghetti western, right?) and so are the hair cuts, but it's such a wonderfully executed concept it doesn't matter much. Volonté seems a bit stilted at first, but I'm willing to chalk it up as part of the character because he really sells the slow character transformation.

Philosophical western about a genius professor from Boston who goes to Texas to get some relief for his tuberculosis, and ends up joining a ruthless gang of killers. He initially tries to reform their immoral lives, but quickly develops a lust for power once he learns to handle a gun. Packs in plenty of shoot 'em up violence, Pinkertons and fist fights, but also has a more thoughtful and intelligent script than the average Spaghetti western.

Very surprise spagetti western. i didn't expect such a strange transformation of professor. It was intelligent text and suspensful adventure that it keep me wonder what it will be next and how it will be concluded. It would be one of the greatest films but it is somehow rush in the scenes, haven't been made masterly and bennet final transformation is also surprise but expected after huge transformation of professor. Even it tells his rawness He must have more expression to develope i think

Great story loaded with all the usual tropes and a few new spins on the genre. Awful sound mix though!

Wise-ass plot that would have needed an exceptionally good writer to pull it off, then it could have been something special. But no, it's lame.
