Eyes Wide Open

A movie that hits all the beats with regards to forbidden love, and then hits all the beats with regards to Orthodox Judaism. Many beats are hit.

I'll have to watch it again but right now, this Israeli film about two Orthodox Jewish men in a forbidden relationship seems like some sort of masterpiece, avoiding shrill identity politics and melodrama and beguiling with its gentle pace, quiet soundtrack, doc-photography framing and detailed cultural milieu. And really, it couldn't have ended better.
