I really tried to get into it because I think the concept of zombies during this time period is super cool; unfortunately, it was too slow for me, and on top of that, the narration was flat. I also didn't like the story development after the son was found; the characters other than the witch were just too flat. There was something odd about the zombies, and I finally realized that they didn't show enough signs of having decomposed. Maybe just low budget for that?

Zombies here seemingly an extension of the un-thinking cannon-fodder and witch-trialers of the time but not made the most of. The animated parts were really charming but the narration seemed out of place/unnecessary as was, would've liked more of that and less dialogue. Lost interest completely as it devolved into a silly rescue mission.

It certainly tries. Some nice musical selections.

Not bad. Good companion piece to McHattie's other Canadian indie zombie movie 'Pontypool'. Character arcs bugged me though: the unstoppable hero, the one-dimensional female lead, the plucky & reliable sidekick, the stuck-in-the-past bad guy, blah.

i like the idea of putting modern themes like a zombie outbreak into another setting. i don't know why they've chosen the post-civil-war-scenario, but it works well enough. plus it may have fitted best with the obviously pretty low budget (they just filmed this in the woods with almost no set whatsoever). and although it mostly rips off every other zombie-movie or series there is, it manages to intrigue somehow. nothing is particularily good here, but it isn't bad either.

Not bad at all for a low budget slow-burn. The zombies looked good. The acting wasn't bad. Some ambitious cinematography going on. I liked the stylish little animated parts peppered in from time to time as well. The only real gripe I have is that it was maybe a tad too long considering the slow pacing of it. Definitely watchable/re-watchable.
