Ever in My Heart

Socially-conscious melodrama which doesn't really work. Stretch your imagination, if you can...Americans using an illogical pretext to heap bigotry and hatred on a perfectly nice guy (Stanwyck's husband) just because he's the "wrong" nationality. I know, couldn't possibly happen here (plus ça change...). There's nothing subtle about this, and in any lesser hands than Barbara Stanwyck's, would have been utterly insufferable. Not really worth it, and the Liebestod ending is strange indeed.

A well told and interesting love story. A thought breeding and beautifully tragic story of love between different nationalities, American girl Barbara Stanwyck and immigrant German Otto Kruger. And just as their blissful union occur World War 1. The way they did the finish this had it'd delicate nature. Didn't try to over-dramatize the twist and in a way a made it an mellow logic conclusion between love of a man and love of a country.
