Essene

The Benedictine monastery as an ascetic institution. So much of what goes on in such a time and place is too foreign to register with those who embrace sensual pleasures (us, the viewers), but by presenting the monastery as yet another institution that consists of particular structures and functions, Wiseman makes the life of the monk at least partially accessible to us sinners (but in no diminishes the uniqueness of this way of life).

In between bad singing, the monks basically act like a support group. It's a bit embarrassing, and while interesting, I think Essene is a letdown after the first several movies Wiseman had made.
