This was a waste of time, and I almost never say that, AND I actually finished the damn thing. My biggest complaint: the whole film was whisper-ADR'ed and I could barely stay awake because there wasn't any action.

With an obviously paltry budget, and an even more ridiculous plot, and Stallone looking more like a nursing home escapee than an action star, the mere existence of "Escape Plan 2" is puzzling. But at it's core, the series thus far has a lot in common with Van Damme and Segal action movies from the 90's and this scratches an itch that's been largely ignored for quite a long time.

Honestly, it's not bad. Sure, the acting and dialogue are a bit cheesy, the plot is under-explained, and the actual escape seems to leave out lots of details, but the pacing is perfect: it never feels slow or boring and the tension is always rising. With the ever-present cool synth-y score, it kind of just feels like one big action sequence, which made for an engaging if unremarkable film. The villain and Huang's lead have good energy and add some zest to the big boys' cool and collected vibe.

Painfully boring. The movie doesn't know who it needs to focus on. Shu is too unstoppable in battle so there's never tension with his character, Bautista's role is incredibly short and not interesting in the least, and Stallone's character feels much less utilized or relatable than the last movie. The theme of tech vs the human mind could have been way better explored, and the fight scenes were only just ok.

The camera work and editing are really distracting and makes the whole thing feel really cheap. The acting is bad even from the underused "bigger" stars, no one seems to give a shit about putting any effort in this. This really reminded my of the TV movies Chuck Norris made in the early 2000s. I wasn't expecting much but this still disappointed.

When all you have is a badly lit soundstage and still insists on making a big prison movie.

I enjoyed the first film as a glossy action film even if it was frequently over the top. This one is just convoluted, confusing and boring. I honestly didn't have a clue what exactly what was going on about half way through and didn't care enough about the characters for that to bother me and I barely made it through the entire runtime. Huang looks good during the action scenes but struggles with English dialogue. Stallone phones it in, and I still have no idea what Bautista's role was for.

I don't know why people like this any less than the first/most any action popcorn flick. This is lower budget, but not so horribly so that it takes away from some known faces, shaky action cam, and plenty of kicking, blue light, and concrete.

The script is cheesy to say the least. Not to mention the movie probably didn't have to exist. That being said, it works well enough as a perceived homage to the over-the-top 80s Sci-Fi action flicks that used to line up grind-house theaters. It's synthesized score and martial arts action scenes hold up just fine and overall the movie is an enjoyable time. Albeit one that certainly will NOT work for everyone.

All-in on the Chinese funding/mainland distribution deal, so not only is it bad on merit, it's also got the irritatingly perfect Chinese hero who has no flaws and solves everything. Also lol they hired Batista and in most of the movie he's sitting in a coffee shop and texting. Great use of a 6'6" 280 lb action star, guyz!!1!

I wanted to like this movie. And there are some good things about it: the score and the choreography. Honestly, if you took away those two, or even just the score, I'd drop it to a 15 or 20 at most. The acting, the plot, the twist... Everything was sub-par.
