Ernest Scared Stupid

Reasonably funny for what it is - a silly Halloween comedy for kids. At this point in the series, you know what you're getting. Trolls actually looked pretty good, if mucus-y. Eartha Kitt is a hoot, wish there was more of her. The zany opening credits song is an earworm. Worst part was the terrible child actors. Still don't know what miak really is.

One movie Ernest is friends with a hot banker babe and the next he’s running around with children in his dump truck wondering what the hell happened, knowwhutimean. 

There are some things that you just shouldn't go into with a stick up your ass, Ernest is one of them. Shit like Transformers and The Spirit are not.

It's an Ernest movie, so you can't expect much. Except I love Halloween. And I love goofy monsters and lore. So yeah, no real explaining to this one.

Don't tell me you're scared of a little spooky kids movie now, it's a Halloween classic. There is nothing to fear, when in the company of Ernest P. Worrell. In my fourth movie I learned that with the power of a dairy rich diet, it is in my blood to be a Troll-Hunter extraordinaire, and in general a thwarter of all that goes bump in the night-knowhatimean

This is the only "Ernest does shit" movie that I liked. If you've never seen this film as a child, don't bother watching it, you'll hate it. I think the only reason I gave it such a good score is because of the nostalgia factor.

If you don't find this film funny at some point in your life, then you have lived without a sense of humor for far too long. It's dumb, it's childish, and oh, man, is it a silly movie, but as far as Halloween family films go, it's one to not let go unseen. Pretty good!

Ernest can get it. It is a crime Varney was never even nominated for an Academy Award. Can you imagine Daniel Day-Lewis doing this type of mugging? I am only half joking, by the way.

While not entirely awful, Ernest Scared Stupid is fine for kids but it also carries on the dated 80's style into another poor film in the franchise. A laugh or two.

I don't care who you are, this movie is funny.

Not a "great film", per se, but a classic in my mind. May be my favorite of the Ernest films. I especially love the introduction!

I'll admit it. This movie cracked me up when I was a kid. It's goofy and is actually a little scary sometimes. Especially for young people. That troll is creepy. Still, I laugh at this movie a lot.

A fun kids movie that'll scare the kids on Halloween.

This was my favorite Ernest movie as a child.

Didn't watch it as a kid, so I don't have the nostalgia but... it ain't bad for a kid's halloween movie. Ernest is stupid and yet super endearing. And the troll monster is actually fucking terrifying.

Better than expected, with some genuinely creepy moments, some genuinely funny jokes, and of course, the always-spectacular Eartha Kitt. That said, there are some unfortunate moments (weird brownface Ottoman getup chief among them), some very child-actor-y child actors, and the humor is, of course, *extremely* broad. I had fun as part of joining others on a nostalgia trip, but it's not something I would watch outside that context.

Seen: a lot. This was a favorite of mine as a kid, and not just around Halloween time.

Nostalgia

I'm sure it's more entertaining when you're younger. MUCH more.

This is not a good movie, in fact, it's a little painful to watch (as an adult) and probably belongs on my bottom Tier. Only my overwhelming sense of nostalgia keeps me from hating Ernest and his movies, especially this one - which my sister and I would watch every year.

All I remember is that Ernest had to kiss these gross monster things in order to defeat them. At least I hope I've got the right movie, there sure were a lot of these shitty things.

The character Ernest is not funny. Ever. I seem to recall one or two good ideas from when I saw this as a kid, but I have no idea what they were or if I would feel the same way now.

As a child I was stupid and scared too.

Fuck it, Ernest one of the greatest. As a kid I was scared but I laughed. Probably wouldn't hold up so well years later though. This 80 is given by kid Obdurate.

It gave me the phrase: "Where's my machine gun? Where's my little machine gun?" Which was a slogan I used as a rallying cry in my take-psychedelics-and-scare-the-straights post-high school days. Of course, the rest of the movie is shit.

Very, very stupid indeed.

Turned it off with about five minutes to go and never did figure out what happened to Ernest. Biggest regret of my life!

The Ernest films were mediocre as a kid growing up in the late 80s / early 90s. This was a young, preteen martryn. At this point, though, there aren't many redeeming qualities to talk about. This crap did not age well, and the character of Ernest likely doesn't translate too well 3 decades later.

Worst of the theater-released Ernests.
