Emperor

Incredibly underwhelming. I was under the impression that the film would have to do more with General MacArthur and how Japan was rebuilt. Instead it was mostly a romance story between a US General and a Japanese girl. Some political drama and battle scenes are sprinkled in. If you go in expecting a political intrigue and historical drama that actually has to do with Japan's rebuilding, I'd say skip this one.

A decent historical drama dealing with the aftermath of Japan's surrender ending WW2. I really enjoyed the focus on Japanese mindset in regards to Emperor Hirohito and his role or lack there of in the starting of the war. The acting is decent and it's worth checking out if you're a history buff or have any interest in Japan.

Was expecting a tour-de-force from TLJ as MacArthur, turns out that consists of 10% of the film. The rest is one of the most insipid white guy-Asian girl doomed romances you've seen, sprinkled with some TV movie investigating/moral conundruming. And TLJ isn't even that memorable.

Solid, but not spectacular, look on the immediate aftermath of Post-WWII in Japan. It is a procedural that follows America's investigation to determine whether or not the Emperor should be tried for war crimes. Because of its historical-procedural nature it automatically gets compared to Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty, and it isn't as compelling as either. But its still fair, and the last 20 minutes are particularly solid.

Wow! I was quite impressed with this movie I don't remember hearing about. Don't let the cover fool you, though Tommy Lee Jones plays MacArthur, Matthew Fox is the star of this movie and does a great job. An interesting story about the fate of Emperor Hirohito just at the end of WWII.

Decent movie.

I was expecting a lot more from this film. Particularly from Tommy Lee Jones. Instead we got TLJ for the beginning of the movie and at the end. Matthew Fox does a decent enough job to carry the movie but this historical Drama just has a lot of dry parts. I do like the whole investigative feel to the film. You also want Fox to find the evidence he needs to clear the Emperor. I just wanted a little more entertainment and I just didn't get it. Props to TLJ for the awesome pipe he smokes.

Decent historical film. Worth a look.

Surprised at the negative press this is drawing. It's an enjoyable procedural with an interesting subject. Maybe people are tired of historical dramas so soon after Oscar season.
