Late night, parents in bed, volume down low, tissues in hand, Emmanuelle on cinemax... I became a man....

Points because it was lifechanging-horrifying back in the sixth grade. Probably responsible for me not being into girls.

Whenever this film goes on with more porn elements/narrative, it becomes regressive, boring, and outdated. And, unfortunately, it does that a lot. But still, I feel like there was some room to explore and understand Emmanuelle, which worked quite okay. I guess.

Considered an erotic classic at the time, this hasn't aged well.The long quasi-philosophical discussions on the death of monogamy and the meaning of eroticism belong to another age and soon wear thin. As for the titillation, you'll see more in an episode from your average HBO show, although it is remarkably well-shot for a mid-70s soft-porn drama and Kristel is amazingly beautiful.

There were a couple of mildly erotic scenes. That's about it.

Tamer than I was expecting, but definitely nicely filmed with exotic locations, sets, and a budget for some great lighting and lensing. The music works well too. I wasn't expecting much of a plot, but it needed more to earn a respectable score.

First of all, Kristel is freaking hot, not in the American way. The Thailand backdrop is interesting. Loved the way Kristel experimented with the other ladies. Thought that the sharp turn in attitude and atmosphere near the end ruined the eroticism and the ethereal quality somewhat. It's like the lessons on sex and love were not learnt, but forced onto her. It feels less like a transformation than a rehabilitation. I wished the love scenes were longer, and kess philosophical rants.

Nostalgia aside this is pretty silly. Sexy rape gets a model all hot and bothered and fucking and seventies bush ensues. That being said there is some fairly erotic imagery at times.

Saw this on German satellite TV when I was in my mid-teens and it blew my mind; that scene with Kristel and Christine Boisson on the wicker chairs... blimey, it didn't get much hotter. Re-watching a decade and a half later, I'm surprised by how tame it is. Very soft focus. The first hour is still very sexy stuff, but the final 30 minutes is pretty horrible, and negates everything that came before it. Emmanuelle's discovery of eroticism only happens after she is raped? Ugh. Misogynistic bullshit.

I was the hugest King Crimson fan when I saw this on Vancouver cable (early CKVU?) in the late seventies. All the love scenes used "Larks Tongues in Aspic Pt.2" (not K.C.-performed) which fit the sensuality of the proceedings quite bang on (npi). Mr. Fripp was not too impressed with not getting any royalties from it. I was also a provincially-ranked junior squash player then, and the squash court lezzin out really cemented my bias. oh - did I mention that ALL THE FUCKING WAS HOTTER THAN SHIT?
