Electing to focus on an unhealthy sexual relationship instead of the suggested neurodivergence of its subject, the film falls comfortably into the well trodden paths of costume dramas. A trio of eminently creative women, Emily’s literary aptitude itself, the charming bond of siblings? Pushed aside, largely - until repressed men tell Emily that she needs to write, you hear? Good thing they did, or none of the Brontë sisters would have taken up a pen!

I think it's an extremely well-made, very engaging film with a terrific lead performance from Emma Mackey. I just wish it had anything legitimately interesting to say about it's subject.

I really enjoyed this film, it has quite a 'breaking the fourth wall' feel to it and it does very well at being an atmospheric and insightful period based biopic drama. The cast do well and its quite a thoughtful watch with good performances from Emma Mackey and Adrian Dunbar as Emily's dad. I can't say I was familiar with Emily Bronte's life (I realise this film portrays a mostly ficticious telling of her life but even so, it was v. interesting) but this film made me curious to read about her.

The film is a remarkable debut from Frances O'Connor and showcases the complexities of Emily Bronte's life in a way that is both beautiful and haunting. The film's exceptional cinematography and score, as well as the pitch-perfect ensemble, add to the film's power.

Atmospheric reimagining of how Emily Brontë found inspiration for her writing from the people around her and the emotions she experienced and witnessed.

Lots to like but a missed opportunity on almost every level.
