Impeccably made and strongly acted, though it feels short at two hours, rushing from one plot point to the next at breakneck speed rather than developing backgrounds and relationships. Still, if you're into costume porn, you really can't do better.

Medieval period drama filled with garish costumes, political intrigue, religious conflicts, chambermaid seduction, rebellious plotting and head-from-body removal? I can watch that shit all DAY bro. Blanchett and Rush are both great, Fiennes is a punchable douchebag, and Daniel Craig makes for a wonderfully badass looking assassin monk. Still feels short at 2 hours.

This film deserves all the praise it gets. Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush are especially great, and the costuming is phenomenal - Elizabeth turning into the "Virgin Queen" is one of the best and most powerful examples of costuming affecting the viewer.

An impressive tour de force from Cate Blanchett makes her totally believable as Elizabeth. This production shown the perilous balance of power at the time dominated by religion, political power and self serving nobility. Staying close to historic fact and spectaculaly filmed with sumptuous costumes and score this is a film not to be missed

No mere historical drama, Elizabeth is a rich, suspenseful journey into the heart of British Royal politics, and features a typically outstanding performance from Cate Blanchett.

A great look and feel of the period but don't be mistaken it is no stuffy period piece. It has plenty of action and intrigue. Blanchett and cast all do well.

Film un peu lent et cérémonieux, mais magnifique visuellement : décors, costumes, construction des plans, effets de caméra, tout est sublime ! Très bon acteurs qui évoluent dans cet imbroglio politique haut en couleurs.

On paper this is a royalty costume drama, but don't tell Shekhar Kapur. This is the most Dude period piece ever filmed - with plenty of blood & gore and T & A. With that ingenius perspective, and some religious and sexist subtexts to boot, it's a fascinating entertainment.

The film is not so good, but the incandescant performance from Cate Blanchett is more than worth the rating.

Elizabeth I is famous for being the "virgin queen" so what do they do in the first 10 minutes? Give her a romance. Ugh, fine. Creative interpretation, and the "we don't know what really happened back then" fine. Though it's not that bad in how it's executed. The film itself is quite good. I liked the political manouverings, and the rise of Elizabeth herself. There's some sparks of genius in some of those scenes, and the backdrop of the medieval world feels authentic in how people acted.

Aristocratic yet not pompous. It's a wonderful work of art in historical dramatization as well as in other colorful aspects of costume design, cinematography and the thrill of knowing what's next to come. Superb indeed! MY SCORING: 99-96=Great; 95-90=Very good; 89-85=Good; 84-80=So-so; 79-70=Boring; Below 70=Forget it

Blanchett is flawless; the film covers a very interesting period in English history. I didn't get enough of her relationships and there was a lack of other likeable characters.

I didn't know much about Elizabeth, and this movie filled me in with interesting background stories how she became Virgin Queen. The costumes were amazing to look at. It showed her struggles being the queen, but I wish I could see more of how she influenced the world. It must be very hard to rule the country and lead men at that time... She's a strong woman.

A large part of the film felt ridiculous and i don't really know if the screenplay or the director are to blame. Probably both, but it was worth watching just to see how Cate Blanchett enact the transformation of the queen from an ingenue into ruthless ruler

All the points for acting and costumes, because the plot is simply unpleasant. Murders, tortures, treasons and counter-treasons. Basically, this film is two hours of dark ages. I couldn't identify with anything in the movie, and I still have the problem understanding why was she called 'the virgin queen'.

Better than I'd expected it to be. Thought it would be a boring number of facts and a huge story, but it's a good mixture of a good story and tension. Could be better and with more action, but good enough. Great performance of Geoffrey Rush!

Cate Blanchett is brilliant as Queen Elizabeth, and overall this is a great movie. There are some dull, slow spots in the movie, but even with those considered the majority of it is very interesting and certainly worthwhile if not just for Blancett's performance alone. Elizabeth is an extremely interest character to analyze and there really aren't many movies that do it better than this.
