Electric Dragon 80000V is stylish, shot in black and white, has a cracking soundtrack, and is full to the brim with Japanese weirdness. The downside is that there is little in the way of narrative, and it's not always clear what's going on. It reminds me a little of Tetsuo but Tetsuo makes much more sense.

A fun super hero tale about how people channel bad experiences. The Tetsuo comparisons are obvious, but Ishii seems to be going for something simpler and more organic.

This is clearly an indulgence in extremes. The mood brought on by the sounds and visuals far outweighs what little exists of the narrative. In the end, E.Dragon 80,000V is either a movie you really dig or absolutely abhor. For this reason, I find it pretty difficult to give a solid rating, so I've gone with 7 - which implies that it's a good movie, but one that some may not like. The entire thing is barely 50 minutes, so if you find yourself hating it, not to worry, it will be over soon.

Add 30 points to my score if this is Ishii's cynical, self-referential critique of reheated V-cinema Japanese cyberpunk. But something tells me it isn't.

The other side of the " Tetsuo / Iron Man" Coin, really funky and annoying. Not for everyone but a good work by Ishii.. Ishii who worked in the early 80's with "einstürzende neubauten" on the Videoclip 1/2 Human is a grat Director and writer. Another gorgeous Movie is Dead End Run from 2003 for all Critickers who gave that Movie not a 0 ;)
