El infierno

Goodfellas Lite, set in Mexico. No real surprises here, just more 'life and times of a gangster' stuff. Though this movie did make clear I want my funeral to also have a mariachi band singing about my dastardly exploits and women dressed in black screaming they will avenge my demise.

I don't understand why this is billed as a black comedy. As far as I can tell, this is a crime drama. The plot was kind of standard and boring, but the depiction of the gangsters and the general attitude of every character seemed to ring very true and that was my favorite thing about this film. The protagonist has a strong, but utterly predictable character arc. The pacing was a tad slow, but the acting, dialog, setting, and camerawork were very good. I'm glad I watched it.

Black comedy is very hard to do, this tries to do it by contrasting jaunty mexican music with violent deaths, it's more difficult than that
