An aesthetically pleasing historical movie with an unescapable tragic and upsetting ending. Based on a real political scandal from the beginning of the 20th century in Mexico, the movie's reconstruction of the club of "maricones" is sure to resonate with queer people. If there's anything bad that I can point to in this movie, is that the exciting and happy scenes are sparse compared to the avalanche of emotional suffering - but that's what you can expect for the time.
