Edge of Seventeen

Very touching and resists revelling in cliche. Friendships break and can’t be repaired. The ending seemingly “happy” but undercut by his family basically seeing him as an oddity they can just ignore when he lives elsewhere

Somewhat awkwardly performed, but an absolutely winning sincerity. The ending's ambivalence is actually a bit startling and remarkable. So much lost, perhaps just as much gained.

The quintessential coming-of-queer-age flick. The cast is great and the tone delicately balances the turbulence with the lightheartedness. It covers the pain and loneliness and mistakes bluntly but beautifully.

Top badass moment? There isn't one. Normally this is a sign of a crappy movie, one filled with horrible characters, or one I was too drunk or tired when I watched it to remember properly, but in this case it's really a reflection of a lot of normal people doing their best. That in itself is badass. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Probably the most realistic coming-out movie I've ever seen. Digging the 80s new wave soundtrack too! Very nuanced performance from Chris Stafford. Its a shame her gave up acting after this.

Feels awfully realistic without being too realistic hence light enough not to be a bummer. Lots of nice sex tension, clever costuming & cute cast. Way better than i thought it would be, since the posters are so small.
