Eaux d'artifice

1953
Short Film
12m
A woman dressed elegantly walks purposely through the water gardens at the Villa d'Este in Tivoli, as the music of Vivaldi's "Winter" movement of "The Four Seasons" plays. Heavy red filters give a blue cast to the light; water plays across stone, and fountains send it into the air. No words are spoken. Baroque statuary and the sensuous flow of water are back lit. Anger calls it "water games."

Although the water photography is very nice, overall I found this one pretty dull and pointless.

someone is walking through a mansion rather theatrically, but when the establishing shot became a closeup, with that fountain gleefully spitting and frothing a line of foam, for the next 13 minutes all i could see was cum, cumming over every corner of the screen. vivaldi only served to accentuate. *sigh* okay, the water was very beautifully photographed.

Pretty but vacant, the classical imagery and music serving as a strange inverse to the pop fetishistic world of his later films. Nice textures.

Quite a pleasant music video. The villa must be incredible.

Beautiful, really. I happily stared through this, but I just wish anger would be less abstract.

Much more subtle and relaxed than Anger's previous films, Eaux D'artifice stands as a weird mix of abstract (the exploration of water and its texture) and expressionistic (having a midget woman play the role in order to distort the dimensional relations of the space) filmmaking. Very delightful and inspiring.
