A fine trawl through some of the stories behind American 70s cinema. If you liked the book you'll like this, I reckon.

A strong encapsulation of the rebirth of the movie industry in the late-60s and into the 70s.

A broad overview of New Hollywood based on Biskind's book. It's less sensationalist than that book, but it also lacks a strong authorial voice. It's a decent primer for the uninitiated, and it's of passing interest for fans of the period who keep their expectations in check.

Very incomplete translation of the dishy book, to be expected since Bogdanovich, Fonda, and Hopper are the only major figures therein to consent to appear in the movie (the rest wanted to literally kill the guy). Worth watching for the intercutting of Polly Platt and Cybill Shepherd's accounts of Boggo's LAST PICTURE swap, and Shepherd's actual crocodile tears ("But...I'd do it all over again"). Nothing about Hopper breaking Brooke Hayward's nose or Friedkin nearly crippling Ellen Burstyn, natch

A decent supplement to the much-more-excellent book of the same name.

I'm not a big fan of 70s films, but some of the footage in this was interesting. Mostly the behind the scenes stuff. Most the film I found myself not really caring though. The documentary wasn't engaging enough. There didn't seem to be any sort of narrative, just a series of interviews and clips of films. I guess it might be more interesting to people who grew up with these films.

Can't hold a candle to A DECADE UNDER THE INFLUENCE.

A slick documentary, not very deep, but if you like American cinema of the 70s, you should probably see it.
