Earthworm Tractors

Comedy

Alexander Botts is a self-described natural born salesman and master mechanic, who is trying to make a big sale of Earthworm tractors to grouchy lumberman Johnson. Since Botts doesn't really know anything about tractors, and since the old-fashioned Johnson is opposed to tractors of any kind, it isn't going to be an easy sell. But Botts perseveres, encouraged by Johnson's daughter. (imdb)

That's not a tractor, that's a tank! I didn't know civilian vehicles could rampage like that in 1936. For the most part I enjoyed my first Joe E. Brown comedy, lighthearted and cheesy. But the dues ex machina ending was pretty unforgivable. *pats himself on the back for dropping the words "dues ex machina", sure that he'll be considered cool now*

Joe E. Brown does what Joe E. Brown does best. Being corny. Nice to see him do something else then baseball movies for a change. Here are a tractor salesman! All an excuse for him to wreck everything in sight when operating the heavy machinery! And with Guy Kibbee we have a sometimes hilarious comedy. A little too noisy, and one has to expect stupid, but this has some wild scenes in it while he's driving that thing!

Joe E. Brown plays an overconfident, relentlessly optimistic tractor salesman in this pleasant little comedy. It's hammy but light fun - the script and sight gags are consistently amusing, and its warmth and charm are abundant.
