This one certainly scored high on the unintentional hilarity scale. To be successful, this thing really did need to go for camp all the way. Too bad that opportunity was missed.

I saw this because Thora Birch was in it. She looks quite beautiful in her dresses but that's the only good thing about this movie. Such a shame to see her and Jeremy Irons in this. Bad action, bad CGI, eye-rollingly bad plot. Avoid this one.

Without any personal connection to playing the role-playing game, this notoriously bad fantasy adventure film's reputation as a movie proceeds itself. Noteworthy to fans of the game for resembling the iconic tabletop game in name only, and to movie fans as a laughably bad failure of a film, but maybe un-surprisingly I found that the ridiculous cliche, campy schlock made for a mildly entertaining fantasy B-movie with its healthy share of so-bad-it's-good fun.

It's like they took the original roleplay and looked at that cover and thought: Okay, we need red dragons. In the middle of production they thought "but what of the fans?" and turned to a random page in the Dungeons Master's rulebook. And put a beholder in the movie. "Job well done" they said to themselves. No.

This was just horrible from start to finish. Jeremy Irons turns in the worst performance I've ever seen from him. If you must watch a D&D film, at least get the second film that just came out. It's bad too, but not nearly as bad as this was.

Woeful, lethargic fantasy epic is a turgid misfire - hard to recall such a comparatively distinguished cast who seem so miserable all the way through (read: Birch) - though you can't keep a good ham down with Irons around; his performance is broooooooaad in the extreme, but at least he seems to be having a bit of fun while doing it. If the cast had tried to match his energy, we could have had a minor camp classic, but the dozen-to-one of misery sucks every bit of life that he brings.

I really wanted to give this movie a pure zero, like I do with all the terrible movies I love. In this regard, Dungeons and Dragons let me down. What should've been a uniquely fun and terrible experience really doesn't give the viewer that much fun. Jeremy Irons is a great time to watch, but most the rest of it is boring and offensively unfunny/not unique.

Critics say this movie has a cheap look and is badly directed. Despite the presence of talented actors, the performances are really bad, and additionally, some people are offended at Marlon Wayan's character, calling it a racist throwback to black stereotypes.

Far and away my favorite bad movie of all time; between the absurd dialogue, the blue-lipstick henchman, Jeremy Irons' overacting, Thora Birch's underacting, and the sheer lunacy of the whole affair, few movies in existence can make me laugh half as much. I've seen it over twenty times, and I'll see it twenty more.

Half the cast don't know how to act, the second half don't know when to stop acting. The film's biggest mistake is never putting Irons, O'Brien and Baker in a scene together; there's plenty ham here, but it's surrounded by enough damp squid and completely pointless CGI (fake blood is CHEAP) that it never really becomes as much fun as it should be. That said, a framing device where a bunch of 12-year-olds (some bored out of their minds) sit down to play D&D could have salvaged a lot about this.

Jimmy Olsen is miscast as "charismatic person". Wayans is miscast as "actor". The Forgotten Realms are reduced to even more of a bland fantasy stereotype. Other than that, the movie is okay. Irons is awesome. The CGI is hilariously bad. Oh god, and the costumes. Straight from a Halloween clearance sale.

Not the worst. It's fun to see D&D magic in action in a live-action movie, there are some nice practical effects--I'm referring specifically to the puppetry work--and Bruce Payne as the secondary villain carries the movie as far as it can go. But it's not good. The script is nonsense, and the computer-generated creatures are dopey. The story didn't need so many dragons; that money could have been much better spent elsewise in such a cheap flick.

This is a flick that I find people are overly critical of. As comparison to the game maybe it doesn't follow too closely, never played so couldn't tell ya, but as a sci-fi/fantasy flick it is just fine. The whole idea of this type of film is to let your imagination go, so stop trying to pick apart every litlle detail for fucks sake.

It's really weird that Marlon Wayans is even in this movie, and there's some extraordinarily bad acting by some people. The special effects aren't very good, and there's a dwarf character who adds nothing to the story but the presence of another fantasy trope. It might have been good if it was partly a comedy (possibly justifying Marlon Wayans' presence) that pokes fun at D & D, but instead it's just "Generic Fantasy Movie" with a brand name tacked on for cheap name recognition.

With the title and the advertising, it would be reasonable to assume the people responsible for this movie knew the gaming system; it would also be wildly incorrect. There are two reasons I watch it: Damodar and his bom-chicka-wow-wow "I'm a Broadway dancer!" walk, and "I will invent new kinds of pain and new senses for you to feel it with!". I swear, I really think someone was sneaking crack into Jeremy Irons's coffee on this set.

I'm a HUGE DnD, tabletop RPG fan. HUGE! And I fucking hated this film. Needless to say, nothing in the film resonates as DnD. The Sci-Fi original picture films based on DnD (the sequels to this shit) were better movies. How did they manage to convince Jeremy Irons and Thora Birch to do this movie? This killed the possibility of a legitimate DnD movie in the future, which might be a good thing, considering.

Unapologetic full on fantasy romp that is almost constantly entertaining. There are a couple of those "huh?" moments, & some really stupid lines that Thora is supposed to be saying while ripping off something right out of Star Wars. She could have been used to much better advantage as the mage, she doesn't get nearly the screen time i want. Still, the lavish sets, costumes & effects are really fun & Jeremy's bad guy is terrific, as well as the stoic blue lipped dude. Silly & fun.
