19th century Louisiana is the setting for Duel on the Mississippi. Patricia Medina stars as Lili Scarlet, a vengeful Creole girl who masterminds a series of pirate raids on the local plantations. To cover up her perfidy, Lili operates a lavish gambling ship, and it is here that aristocratic Jules Tulane runs up a huge debt. As "security", Jules' son Andre turns himself over to Lili as a sort of bond slave. (allrovi.com)

Not great, but this low-budget color feature set in 19th century New Orleans was still good fun. The Old South - French style, replete with piracy and intrigue on the sugar plantations, riverboat gambling, duels, and a little romance as well. Quite a convoluted plot for such a short movie (72 min.); it felt like a longer film that had been excessively chopped down. However, I will say it was unique.

"Duel on the Mississippi" features multiple layers of duels, from the classic good versus evil showdowns to underlying struggles involving class distinctions and gender dynamics. The plot is crafted to adhere to its dueling design but needs to improve in soundness. While the film retains a charm typical of old-school B movies, its impression tends to be fleeting.
