Duel at Diablo

One of those sunset era westerns - alongside Ulzana's Raid, The Bravados, Cimarron, Vera Cruz - that I would call the Doubting Western. Not quite yet the Revisionist type, it thoughtfully starts to question the faith and the established dogma of the taming of the West; in this case, of race and fidelity (clever casting brings the point home). It wants to believe, but some realities make it really difficult.

'Duel at Diablo' is, in some ways, an oddity as a Western. Its cast is distracting at first glance (though ultimately effective) and its ideas challenge some of the social issues that pervade both the period of the film, the period of its production, and today. Though said ideas aren't executed with the best touch, the shortcomings are made up for with solid action and characters.

Western but have different approaching to social satatus and interracial relations between indian and white man.
