Breaks every rule of animated cinema for comedic effect, and every time it's spot-on. Very surreal (perhaps, even, existential? Daffy gets snuffed out by his creator, after all).

This is probably one of the greatest cartoons ever made. It's just fascinating to look back on this and realize what Chuck Jones was getting at - you can break the fourth wall, change Daffy's appearance, voice, individuality and make him aware that he is a cartoon character, but Daffy still remains Daffy. This is a great cartoon for anyone interested in film production or wishing to consider the abstract nature of what characterization really means.

The fact that the whole 7 minutes is one continuous gag, explains why I liked it so much, plus Daffy is always funny and quirky. It also features a great ending, one I didn't see coming. Awesome!

Duck Amuck is one of Jones' best works and generally one of the best cartoons ever made. It's a perfect example of melting art and entertainment, deconstruction of the artform while simultaneaously emphasizing its power. It's also a perfect example of Chuck's directing style, which is often based on the strong opposition between the characters walking around in his cartoons, and himself as the omnipotent creator holding all strings in his hands. A truly great example of his life work!

Daffy goes through the same experiences that I go through with call center people: disbelief, rage, bargaining and then a anger sandwich with furious bread and the mayo of deep, bitter bile at all humanity. And its only a cartoon!

Most of the old Merrie Melodies/Looney Tunes stuff isn't laugh out loud funny to me, but the liveliness and characterization in the animation makes them worth watching. The abstractness of this one really makes it stand out and it's definitely a good 7 minutes.

From what I've seen of them, not my favorite Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies film, nor the funniest in my opinion, but undoubtedly great and almost certainly the most inventive and ahead of its time of any of them from both a thematic and a visual standpoint. This also possesses one of the best twist endings in film history as far as I'm concerned, especially outside of horror, thriller, and dramatic territory.

"Duck Amuck" exists for the sole purpose of taking all control away from Daffy Duck and driving him up a wall. Every time him tries to accept his surroundings, things are made worse for him. If he tries to fight his surroundings, things are made worse for him. It's essentially watching Daffy get tortured and harassed endlessly for our and the animator's amusment.
