A tight mystery, that manages to keep you guessing "Did the monster really do it?" J. Carrol Naish is excellent as the sympathetic simian, with Zucco bouncing off him perfectly. This also carries Fox's higher b-movie standards.

Twentieth Century Fox proving they can make a Universal horror picture using J. Carrol Naish as a cross between a gorilla and the Frankenstein Monster. The film might not have had many surprises, but the production values for a B-horror was of high qualities and Naish himself carried his part just right! Chilling and grotesque.
