An old-fashioned romantic comedy with a twist. Putting a hip spin on the golden age of the classic Rock Hudson-Doris Day comedies, the film is the story of a sparkle-filled collision between a woman who has sworn off love and a ladies' man who thinks he doesn't need love. (20th Century Fox)

Great sex comedy with groovy leads and supporting cast, and some awesome production design. If only Reed had gotten that Fantastic Four gig.

There are a couple of things here - namely the look of the thing and the perfect 60s-ish delivery of the lines - which are just delicious, but there are other aspects of this, which are not so good. First and perhaps foremost, is that Zellwegger and McGregor have no chemistry at all. Second, the script could be much better. Third, the constant knowing tone gets annoying. Lastly, the idea is great, but I'm not altogether sure that the makers of this knew quite what to do with it.

Though the plot is cliche, both Zellweger and McGregor are top notch and certainly validate their status as A-list actors. The color composition and costume design is what makes Down With Love excell. The editing is surprisingly high-end given the type of movie it is. Some very creative scenes combined with the moody score make this a great romantic comedy from start to finish.

I haven't really seen any of the romantic comedies of the 50's and 60's that this movie is apparently parodying and borrowing heavily from, but I think I can imagine pretty much what they're like. I imagine that they're pretty much like this movie, only with less gleeful winking to the audience and clever referencing, and perhaps with 25% less double entendres and other innuendo. I enjoyed the film a lot. It's fun and lively and colorful.

Has some moments and managed to hide its many clichés with style alone, at first. But the last half begins going in circles, and the last 15-20 minutes felt forced, anything past the reveal was like, well it could have ended here

Nancy Brown sevmedim. Entrika oyunları. Filmin sonunda, Ya Vegas Ya Hiç. Aşk meleği fırlattı güdümlü füze.

I've never seen any of the Day/Hudson rom coms this is gently spoofing, but I'm familiar enough to get a few chuckles & Zellweger's great. Presumably those movies were silly & over the top which allows this to really go for some absurdist humor which worked just enough for me. But: the thin & nerdy McGregor is miscast as a studly Casanova & for a light genre, it leans very hard into discredited feminist ideas that most women can have sex like men & will be happier prioritizing career over family

Everything is so weirdly cartoonish that I was confused about what Reed was going for. It wasn't until the musical number during the credits that the other shoe dropped: It was a musical without the songs. Well, a musical without the songs is not a great experience, specially since Zellweger is at her most... "self-aware". That said, McGregor's charm and that credits number that reminded me about the best moments in "Chicago" and "Moulin Rouge" almost save it. Almost.

Stylish, enjoyable homage to 50s and 60s era soft “risqué” comedies may have little to offer those who don’t already appreciate the genuine articles; Reed and his collaborators dare to make a sincere throwback with nary a wink in sight (outside of a few overtly racy innuendos) to produce light, frothy, entirely face-value comedy. Perfectly cast, with McGregor and Zellweger an ideal team, and Pierce stealing most of his scenes, thanks to his delightful back-and-forths with McGregor. Great fun.

This is the 50's version of "How Do Lose a Guy in a 10 Days". Movie has style - the costumes, apartments. And the two leads are adapting the style well. Trouble is that movie is not funny.

I didn't expect to fall in love with a movie tonight, but ironically enough, it happened with Down with Love. I can't believe this movie isn't a bigger cult classic. If you're a fan of Renée Zellweger, Ewan McGregor, and/or director Peyton Reed (Ant-Man), you need to hunt this one down A.S.A.P.

But Ewan McGregor's so funny in this. :o

Decadent, Technicolour candy that plays very well with 60s conventions (the suits, the sexism, rear projection, etc) but ultimately leaves you with a belly ache from too many sweets.

Mildly amusing pastiche of the 50s romantic comedy as the likes of "Pillow Talk". Unfortunately, the chemistry between Zellweger and McGregor isn't exactly sparkling. Tony Randall - a veteran of the subgenre - is seen in a minor role.

A nice pastiche over 60s-films complete with split-screen-telephone-conversation-scenes. Pretty basic rom-com story but with a good twist towards the end (it all still ends how it should of course...)

Up until the third act, it shares most everything that made the Doris Day/Rock Hudson romcoms great (except Day's charisma, which Renee still doesn't have a chance in hell to get). When the third act gets there, it becomes a surprising genre inversion AND a sly jab at the hypocrisy of feminism (!!). See for floored expectations and one of the best split-screens since, well, Pillow Talk.

After seing "Pillow Talk" (1959) by M. Gordon I just had to reduce the score. I liked this film mainly for the "original" and intelligent editing. They made a total copy of a fantastic comedy and did it worse.

It kept reminding me of "At Long Last Love", except--thank god!--no singing, at least not until the closing credits. All you need to know about the target audience of this flick is that Ewan McGregor takes off his shirt 3 times in the first 10 minutes. Makes the Rock Hudson/Doris Day movies look like Aristophanes in comparison.

Don't know what this is trying to be. It's like a musical without music. The start is dreadfully annoying, the middle is ok and the end is awful. The last 20 minutes is filled with plot twists that are both overdone, annoying, unnecessary and don't at all fit with the flow of the movie. Not very good.. Ewan McGregor is alright.

I'm a chump for clever romantic comedies. I'm also a chump for the style this film is shot in, which is hardly ever used anymore. The fast, snappy dialog makes a grin come to my face unbidden almost as shit-eatingly huge as Ewan McGregor's. It's a cute film and I adore the musical number that caps the credits.
